Years ago…
Faint laughter echoed from a couple walking down the dark road. It was at the edge of the city, sandwiched by the cemetery and the woods. Miranda Swanson was walking with her boyfriend, hugging his arm as he just finished speaking to her mother's grave about their coming wedding. She felt very light as if all the problems of the world had vanished.
"This is the best day of my life…" she whispered as she hugged her boyfriend's arm tighter. "I will be happily married… and we will have a very beautiful child…"
She rubbed her belly, which was in its first month at least. A missed period and a couple of pregnancy test kits were enough for her to believe that a bun was now in the oven. Her father had remarried, but she looked forward to telling him the news about the child and the wedding.
