After a very hectic weekend, Anna forced herself to work in the morning. After working on the presentation for two straight days with only a few hours of sleep, her Monday was not so pleasant. But surprisingly, the office environment, especially her department, seemed to be unusually calm.
This is when she realized that her always-grumpy boss who had a weird habit of lashing out on her at least once a day, was extremely calm and quiet. In fact, she hadn’t even seen her since morning.
“Hey Kate—” She summoned one of her colleagues. “Is boss on leave today?”
“You don’t know?” When Anna shook her head, Kate closed her laptop and scooted closer. “She got fired.”
“What?” She widened her eyes in shock.
“Not only she, many people from other departments got fired too. The company said they are laying off a bunch of employees for the normal functioning of the company. Didn’t you get an email?”
