Chapter 1 - Juliana meets Eric

{Juliana's POV}

My name is Juliana Robinson and I am sixteen years old. My family consists of six members. My dad, mom, and three younger siblings cause I am the firstborn. We live in Newcastle.

I am tall and blonde, which is odd considering my entire family has curly hair including my father. This is my story and it's not the end but the beginning.

Lucy is the second child and she was fourteen years old. She was so arrogant that no one dares to make her mad. She got influenced by the privileged kids in her school that love to pick on poor students. She would always sneak out to go to night parties or even throw parties at home. She was a rule breaker who always insist on expensive clothes, jewelry, and shoes. She would throw tantrums if all her demands are not met. She has curly brown hair with a blue set of sparkling eyes.

My brother on the other hand was a great comedian. He enjoys cracking jokes and pranking people. He has curly brown hair and his name is Rick, plus he was eight years old. My last sister's name is Rachel and she is a year old.

My dad's name is Mr. Christian Robinson. He is about six feet tall. He is slim and looks way younger than his age.

We were having dinner, I noticed that Lucy did not touch her food. Her face was red like a ripe tomato. I am very certain that something is wrong with her and it's making her mad. Lucy is the type of person who doesn't like telling people what's bothering her, instead, she lashes out at people whenever she is angry and I hope she makes this peaceful dinner last long. But as you know, Lucy decided to sabotage the whole dinner with her raging anger that she cannot keep for one goddam second.

"You stepped on my toes." She yelled at Rick.

  "I'm sorry." Rick quickly apologize.

Lucy's face became red as hot steam came out of her both ears indicating that she was still fuming in anger. "Is that all you got to say?." She yelled again.

"Hey, Lucy what else do you want him to say?." My mom asked calmly but Lucy just snapped as she stood up and left the dining room furiously.

"What's the matter with Lucy?." My dad asked surprised at her rude attitude.

"I'll go check on her." I stood up then I went to Lucy's room. I knocked severally but there was no response so I opened the door only to find Lucy on her bed crying. I was shocked because this was like the first time I would see her so emotional. I thought people as tough as she could never cry but I was mistaken. She clutched her pillow tight to her chest. When she saw me, she felt embarrassed and she quickly cleaned her tears.

"What do you want?." She demanded amidst tears.

"What's wrong, Lucy?." I asked concerned.

"Nothing."

"Whatever it is you can share it with me." I settled on a chair.

"It's Greg."

"Greg, what about him?." I was so shocked when she mentioned the name, Greg. The thing is, Greg was her boyfriend, they've been dating for a year now and Lucy never talks about her love life. So you can see why I was so shocked.

"I went to the grill four days ago but when I got there I met him on a date with a new hot girl at school. I just couldn't take it so I left. I've been avoiding him ever since."

My phone began to ring. "Hold on, Greg is on the line."

"I don't wanna speak to him," Lucy admitted.

I picked up the call. "Greetings Greg."

"Hi, Lucy has been avoiding me lately and I'm sick of it. I called her but she did not pick up. Tell her to check her inbox, I sent her a message."

"Okay, I'll tell her but am kinda busy now so bye."

"Bye." He said and hung up the call.

"He said you should check your inbox."

"I already did."

"What did he say?." I was curious

"He said he is wary of my character so he wants to break up with me and date Olivia the new hot girl at our school." She explained with tears streaming down her face which she quickly cleaned.

"He is such a jerk all my stuff. Are you fine with breaking up with him?." Could a boy make Lucy so emotional? I thought as I watched her face drenched in tears. Lucy really loves this Greg but am sure she wouldn't admit it.

"Yes, what's the point of being in a relationship when you would have your heart crash at the end? I'm no longer in any relationship, I can't afford another heartbreak."

"Are you sure?." I felt sorry for her cause she is too young to be having a boyfriend not to talk of having heartbreak.

"Sure." She forced out a half-hearted smile. I stood up to hug her. She reluctantly hugged me back.

"Hugs work."

"Thanks." She said.

The next day, on my way to my locker at school. A boy accidentally bumped into me and all my stuff tumbled to the ground. We both bent down to pick them up. I looked at his face. His deep-set sapphire eyes pierced my heart. My stomach and breath felt like they have been ripped from my body. I was mute!

"Hey, my bad. I'm so sorry. It was an accident. So stupid of me to bump into a pretty girl like you."

Did he just call me pretty? I thought. My heart fluttered as I stared into his dreamy eyes. I was silent for a while then I eked out some words at last. "Don't...be...t...o...o hard on yourself." I stammered sheepishly as my cheeks blushed shamelessly.

"My name is Eric. Hope we meet someday." He gave me my book and smiled. Oh, that smile made my heart skip a beat. He left my front and I kept staring at him till he was out of sight.

Several weeks passed and it was on a weekend. I and my family visited a sports center. Rick went swimming while my parents went to play table tennis. Lucy just sat by the poolside oblivious to all the fun. She was still grieving her break-up with Greg. I went to learn aerobics but to my surprise, Eric happened to be there as well. After we finished learning aerobics, Eric bought two sodas. One for me and the other one for himself. We sought a quiet spot to converse.

"I don't know you learn aerobics. I've never seen you here before." Eric said.

"I love it." We said this together.

"I think we have something in common." He leaped to a conclusion.

"I came here with my family." I decided to start a conversation. Now that I have him, I don't want him to slip away from me.

"I came alone." He sipped from his soda.

"You didn't tell me your name the day we met." He reclined crossing his legs. He looked straight into my eyes which made me feel uncomfortable. I don't really like people staring straight into my eyes but I couldn't complain because I didn't want to sound rude.

"My name is Juliana Robinson. I am sixteen and in a couple of months, I'll be seventeen. I live with my parents." I inhaled deeply as conveyed my information.

"My name is Eric Williams. I am eighteen and I live alone." I could see a wave of loneliness in his eyes but it was gone in a blink of an eye.

"That's going to be very lonely." I touched his hand which he placed on the table. He looked at my hand and said.

"Parents are just people who nag and keep you isolated from all the pleasures of life. I hate to be told how to live my life. Siblings are just responsibility." We both burst out laughing.

"Indeed they are." I nodded my head in acknowledgment of the truth.
