Looking at the Shrieker, who had the face of a crow, the body of a gorilla, and the legs of a goat, I couldn't help but feel reminiscent. It had such a creepy physique that fear immediately overcomes your entire body, but seeing something that only exists in that story had me excited.
The only rational part in my mind had been completely taken over by the sudden appearance of the Elite beast.
Well, I still wasn't suicidal as I knew how terrifying these things are. Being as tall as an ogre with the body of a gorilla, it had the strength to kill me in one go. That tree got uprooted easily after all.
It was still distracted by the goblins, so I could run away easily. I didn't hesitate as I ran to the forest.
My adrenaline was pumping and I could hear every beat my heart took. I was scared, but I had a plan. The only plan that was possible against such a horrible beast.
The forest might be covered in shrubs and trees, but against a Shrieker, escaping is impossible.
They may not be as strong as an ogre or have the regeneration of a troll, but their nose was as good as a hound and their memories were so sharp that they could remember everything they saw. This monster was an absolute abomination whose sole purpose was to hunt. There was a saying that no Shrieker existed where they weren't successful in finding their prey, as some had to kill it to escape, while most didn't live to tell the day. I'd rather choose the former, but a weak teen body wouldn't be able to do so.
But thankfully, I have my brain. To be more specific, the knowledge that is stuck here. I was still not sure if this was the world of " The White Heron " but everything that had just happened was the events I wrote about in my fanfiction. Starting from awakening as a teen up to finding a Shrieker in the midst of drinking from a creek, they were all events that transpired in the fanfiction I wrote.
Fuck, If I knew this would've happened, I wouldn't have written it this way. I knew I should've kept the nuclear punch... Why did I listen to that guy...
Well, anyway, there's a certain line in the fanfiction which was my only chance in escaping this bastard.
" The chime of the Bellibird had indicated it was noon. It was time for the hunters to find a living. The - "
" Help me, please... " A voice so dreadful escaped from someone nearby. They were hoarse and deep, but they sounded like they were experiencing immense despair and hopelessness.
" AHHHH! " Then, not long after, a loud, pitched scream followed the call for help.
I held my mouth shut as I heard the scream nearby. I felt sorry for the one who was crying for help, but I'm in no position to help them. And even if I was, they were already long dead. The Shriekers are called Shriekers not only because of their terrifying figures but also because the most common noise they make is shrieks.
Which they copied from the last noise their victims made...
" Help me.... "
My body suddenly froze. The hoarse and chilling voice escaped from the Shrieker. And not long after, I saw the beak of a crow poking at the side of the tree I was resting my back on.
...
" AHHHH! "
The shrieker released another scream as the tree I was resting on started to lift from the ground. I immediately stood and ran to who knows where. All I had in mind was surviving till noon.
" The chime of the Bellibird had indicated it was noon. It was time for the hunters to find a living. The Hunters who would subdue the Shrieker appeared only 5 minutes later. "
All I had to do was just buy time. The blazing sun was almost at its peak, so it should be nearing noon soon. But as much as I wanted to continue running, my small and frail body wouldn't have enough stamina to do so.
I had to think of a plan. The hunters who will find and save me should find me inside the forest after outrunning the Shrieker for 5 minutes straight. But that was just dumb as I was found bruised, beaten, and tired which I would be brought to a healer making me realize that I've fully transmigrated. Why? I had to at least make the chase suspenseful, you know? But anyways, A sudden thought filled my brain as I thought of a plan.
To introduce the hunters and to make this chase have an end goal, I made the hunters take the quest to defeat the Elite beast. But before they found me, they stumbled upon the dead goblins who had been crushed by a huge trunk earlier. So if I go to the creek, hopefully, the hunters will find me earlier.
I dashed towards the sound of flowing water without hesitation.I ran and ran without looking back as the loud thumping of its footsteps heading towards me was already enough to frighten me out.
I kept on going, dodging all the shrubs and obstacles that would make me stumble. I didn't want to act like the victim in a horror movie, stumbling and screaming in fear. I have already done it many times and I have no plans to repeat it. I
Taking all the corners I could, I was hoping to lose the dreadful being by running through the forest, using the thick trees to my advantage, but due to its features, that was just wishful thinking.
" Stop chasing me, you bird brain bastard! " I was getting tired already.
If not for this small, weak body...
I've only arrived at this place and I have no plans to go out yet.
" Ba...stard " The shrieker chasing me suddenly spoke.
This...
I didn't know if I should laugh or not. He copied my lines, but he only did so to people he had already killed.
It seemed like it noticed my body getting tired.
Thankfully, not long after, the chimes of a bell escaped from the trees in the forest.
The Bellibirds had finally announced that it was officially noon thanks to their unique sounding chirps.
" The Hunters who would subdue the Shrieker appeared only 5 minutes later "
Fuck
I won't even last 30 seconds with this stamina.
I could now see the creek from earlier. From here, I had no choice but to run straight as I could only hope his huge goat legs wouldn't help in crossing the slippery creek.
I can buy enough time here. I started to smile.
But not for long, as I hear another tree getting uprooted from behind me. which was odd as it would greatly slow him down considering the sudden burden he would get. My smile started to widen as it seemed like he had given up.
But then the thumping of the ground was replaced with the sound of the tree getting uprooted.
I have a bad feeling about this... Still running straight to the creek, I look back to check what just happened. As I did so, the smile on my face vanished.
He was lifting the tree with his hands, looking like he was ready to throw it at me.
" You gotta be kidding me... "
