I've had this dream many times but something felt different about it this time. Normally it was small little clips of the accident and normally it doesn't feel real. Now, I felt everything and this time I went through all of it.
I sat in my house playing with my small barbie collection and pretended they were walking. I was to busy playing with my dolls to see my dad sneak up behind me and lift me off the ground.
I screamed in delight and giggled wildly as my father swung me around in a circle.
" Hows my sweet little princess? " He asked.
Of course I was only five and had a small vocabulary list.
" Good! " I managed.
He smiled a dazzling smile and carried me into the hallway and into the large kitchen.
" Oh, good, She's up! " My mother said snatching me up from my fathers arms. Of course I protested by kicking and screaming, my mother hated me when I did that and she gave me a stern look.
" Astrid " She warned.
I stopped fighting and kicking and just let her hold me. I never liked being taken from my fathers arms when I didn't want to.
" You know she doesn't like being snatched away from me like that. " He chuckled.
" Well she'll just have to get used to it. I am her mother and she should at least let me hold her. " She said setting me down and shoving a plate of eggs and bacon in my face.
I turned my head away from the eggs and grabbed the bacon instead.
I finished the bacon in no time and instead of eating the nasty crispy eggs I shoved the plate away.
My mother frowned and pushed the plate back in my face.
" No " I fussed shoving it back away.
After a couple of times of doing that she grimaced.
" Astrid Hale if you don't eat your food you won't go on the boat ride today! " She threatened.
I perked up at the word boat but the eggs weren't appealing at all to me.
" Astrid, do you want me to cut the crispy edges off or want me to make scrambled eggs instead.
" Other Egg! " I screamed happily.
" Honey, You're spoiling her! " My mom protested.
" I am not I just know she doesn't like crispy on the outside of her eggs. " He chuckled already finished with the scrambled eggs and replaced the eggs for the scrambled one.
I scarfed it down like a bear and waved my hands in victory.
My mother chuckled and picked me up and carried me into my room. Before long I was dressed in a summer dress with a small swim suit underneath.
My dad snatched me up and again I screamed and kicked.
" See, I'm not the only person she does that to. " He said.
" Sorry Attie, " He said tickling me.
I squealed wildly and chuckled.
" Let's go for a long boat ride, you want to go on a boat ride? " My father asked,
" Yeah! " My child voice said.
My grown up and future voice wanted to scream no but this was a dream and i wasn't in control.
To my dismay we jumped in the car and went to the ocean and into a small boat and to the big boat. We never went to the big boat unless my father was going to spend more than a day out in the ocean far away from the view of the city. Today we were going on a real adventure, a very tragic one at that.
We spent the first day swimming in the open ocean but then a small storm came through and I was forced to get out of the water and under the dock.
We sailed on for another three days but the storm was only getting worse. It was as if the god of the sea was furious at us. My father and mother kept me down in the housing quarters as the seas became chaos and the seas began to churn. I was looking out through the window as my father began yelling at my mother and waving her towards me. I had wandered out of the safety of the housing quarters and now walked onto the main boat dock where my father tried to pilot the boat with no avail. My mother held a look of pure fear as she began to run towards me.
It was only then that I beheld the most massive wave I had ever thought could possibly exist and it was headed straight for us. It was going to drown us and my mother knew it. She saw the wave as it began to hurtle towards us. Instead of her and my father joining me in the housing part of the boat I was thrown inside the housing by myself. I banged on the door I was too short to reach the door knob but I could reach the window to look at my parents.
My mother and my father held each other tightly and the wave crashed onto them sending the boat under water. I screamed and tears fell without pause. I looked under the water for my parents but they were nowhere to be seen. More waves crashed into the boat and I was tossed with it. Then one massive wave crashed into the boat making the windows crack. The glass shattered and water poured inside of the boat and I could tell that the boat was sinking to the bottom of the ocean and I knew that I wasn't going to survive.
The water rose and before I knew it I only had a few inches of air above my head to breath in. After that I had no air and I was starting to lose the air I sucked in before the water was above my head.
Finally the last bit of air I had was gone and Ice cold ocean water began to shove its way down my little throat. I was so scared, I was panicking, I was out of control, I tried to wave my arms and my legs furiously but I was solidified, like a statue. I was still breathing pretty fast while I was sinking. Which seemed like an eternity to me, I was underwater and though normally I can't open my eyes in salt water, I could see the sea and the colors yet as I desperately tried to breathe, I had more and more water filling my lungs. I was aware, that I had to stay above water, to be able to breathe again. And I was flailing my hands to stay above water, hoping I could bring my face above the surface, but I wasn't very successful at it. Then I started going down and didn't have any more thoughts before my body began to convulse. I didn't want to die like this, but the ocean had no mercy for me. So, as I convulsed I began to accept the fact that I was going to die.
I jolted up in my bed breathing heavily and gasping wildly. I pressed my hands all over my body to make sure I was still alive and as the dream began to fade I exhaled in relief. There was no way I was going to be able to sleep for the rest of the night so I looked out the window of the house I built up in a giant magic oak. I perched on the windows ledge and leaped out of the window and grabbed the vines to make my way down to the floor of the Island's magic filled Jungle.
