Chapter 9 - NOT UNLESS

Rexana woke up with a bright smile on her face. She just learned a lot last night, she might not know her true identity yet, however, she didn't also want to put pressure on the parents she knew and loved. She was content being with them and them being to her was proof enough that they love her.

She was aware that they might have hidden from her before since it wasn't the right time for her to know yet. As there was always a perfect timing for everything.

Nevertheless, more than that, what made her smile was still the thought of Daerin. No one had been treating her good enough than him aside from her parents. Even other girls on their island seemed disgusted with her. And, he hadn't seen that from Daerin.

She began to wonder if it was natural for him to be just good or if maybe he was only good because he liked her. She shook her head pushing away the thoughts, she knew that it was impossible for a handsome, rich guy to like an ugly island girl, dirty and dumb on a lot of things.

She got nothing to be liked about.

But she was confused about what she was feeling, she almost couldn't do anything but keep on thinking about him. She wish he could see him again. But, that was impossible.

'Not unless... not unless…' she smiled as some light bulb lighted on his head.

As if some spirit got her, she suddenly became so excited that she jumped on her feet and scurried towards the sea.

She was planning to gift Daerin pearls again. That's if she would see him again, and if she wouldn't she could also sell the crystals to other customers.

Rexana got back to the shore with two pearl shells, she cleaned up the pearls. She actually meant to harvest two, one to sell and one for Daerin. She felt like she still had the right to gift him. She wouldn't stop giving him a thank you gift for what he did for her.

Since Rexana had already cleaned up the pearls while she was still on the bay, she just went home to change. But she couldn't find another dress around, instead of the blanket that she was supposed to be using at night. However, though, she wasn't comfortable sleeping with a blanket around her. So, she had never gotten a chance to use them.

They were not a thick fabric though they were soft and flowy. Perfect to make it as a makeshift dress. She got that idea when she saw beach visitors doing it. They just tied some part of the blanket around their neck and ollah! they already got a nice dress and Rexana found it cute. So, this time she had to use what she saw and learned.

She also didn't forget to wear the shoes Daerin had given her.

Rexana was almost halfway to the resort when she began hesitating again. She wondered if Daerin would be happy seeing her again or would get annoyed. She stop biting her lips but then she remembered him saying that she could go to the resort kitchen anytime and she would be welcome there and Miss Chin would give her some food.

She couldn't get over the food Daerin had given her. Even her parents were so pleased, that was the first time they had tried that kind of food. However, it wasn't her type to simply just go there and keep on asking for food every day. Although, she would be fine if Daerin would also accept her pearls gift.

With that thought, Rexana suddenly got the encouragement she needed. She didn't need to be, scared or ashamed. She was Daerin's friend and she wasn't only there to take but to also give.

She walked past the guard, but the resort guard had noticed her and called her in a very loud voice.

"Hey, you're not allowed here." The angry guard pulled her out of the resort's gate. However, the spirit of not being hesitant was still burning inside her and she believed that she was actually on the right side. So as her father kept on saying not to allow anyone to step on her toes. She knew she has to fight for herself.

"What? You are wrong I am allowed to come here anytime. Daerin told me that. You know Daerin right? He is your boss. He permitted me to come here." She explained, but the way she said it, was aggravating the guard. Just like the local's accent, she sounded like she was angry even if she was not.

"You beggars expect too much. You just talked to my boss one time then you are already acting like you are one of the owners. Wake up, rug, even your look wouldn't fit to step on the floor of this place." The annoyed guard talked back harsher and that muted Rexana for a bit.

She wanted to fight for herself more and believe that she was still right. Nonetheless, what the guard said hit her self-esteem. He was right, maybe she had been expecting too much. Rexana had decided to walk away in defeat when she heard a familiar voice coming from behind.

"What's happening here? What did you do to her?" It was Daerin.

Rexana abruptly looked back, 'her knight in shining armor showed up again,' she thought. It seemed that he just pulled himself out of the pull. He was wearing a tight trunk and nothing on the top. He was holding a white towel but it didn't cover the bulky thing buldging under his swimming trunk.

Rexana couldn't help but gape over the view. She could feel herself go flustered. It wasn't the first time seeing men in that same attire, but it mostly didn't bother her. She even didn't take notice of them most of the time.

That was the first time for Rexana to be affected by that kind of view and she was confused about why.
