Edmund sat on his bed that morning. Judging by the time, he was meant to be on the farm. But not today, he had something more serious on his mind. He had enough of being a farmer and hated being a peasant. He wanted to take on a more successful occupation and nothing crossed his mind better than becoming a physician. He had an extreme passion for this, ever since Drax's incident, and on seeing how respected the physicians were he took a liking to the job. But how would he tell this to his parents, especially his dad who had been a farmer all his life? Who will do the job for them and provide for their needs? At that age, it was a duty for guys of his age to take up their parents' profession and make provisions for them. This would be impossible if he isn't farming. These were the thoughts that had kept him all night and were still in his mind till that present moment.
"Wait! But I can still farm after school." He was overwhelmed. He seemed to have found the solution to his problem so he stood up and headed for their room.
"They should agree to this." He said with excitement as he walked there.

Culbert was seated in his room when he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
Edmund was hesitant to walk in but after waiting for some time, he came in.
"Oh! Ed! How are you doing?" Culbert asked.
"I'm fine dad."
"Ermm.. what about you. How do you feel?" Edmund replied to his dad who had a shocking expression on his face. It was weird to hear his child act mature. He finally got his voice and replied.
"I'm also fine. What's happening, you look really happy."
"Not really dad. Just had some questions."
Culbert changed his direction and sat up.
"Go on. I'm listening." He added.
"Okay, so the questions aren't that serious but I will be glad if you can answer them."
"I will don't worry." Culbert cut in. It was a great time to bond with his son. Edmund previously wasn't close to his parents so Culbert saw it as his chance.
"Okay, sir."
Culbert now had a different expression on his face. One full of shock.
When did Edmund become so respectful! He thought to himself.
"So, errm…"
"When did this family start farming?" He asked his father with a bent head. Avoiding eye contact with him.
"Errr. Are you alright Edmund?" Culbert asked Edmund silently. He was surprised by the question his boy just asked but was amazed at the same time.
"Was this the question you were scared to ask?"
"Not really, just answer this first." He replied he wanted to cut corners before heading for the main point.
"Okay, so I met this occupation, my father your grandfather was a farmer, his father, even the grand matron's father was. That's as far as I can remember. Down to our lineage."
Edmund was surprised, Ayan had told him something about this but he never thought the farming journey was this far.
He let out a sigh, shut his eyes, and spoke out.
"I don't want to farm anymore." He said this silently but was loud enough for Culbert who was seated in front of him to hear.
"What!" Culbert yelled but Edmund wasn't moved. He had expected this reaction.
"Why.. I mean what made you say this rubbish." He stood up and looked at Edmund who was just the same height as he was.
"I mean… it's not like it's bad but…"
"Look, dad, I don't like it."
"Why don't you like it? If you don't do it then who would do your chores?"
Edmund finally opened his eyes and looked straight into his father's. He was ready to be scolded but not rejected. He had made up his mind before coming. No matter what? He was going to convince the man at his front.
"Don't take it t wrong way, but I will rather prefer to trade or join the military than be a farmer."
"Why? That was the question I asked."
"Or you think this is for peasants right?"
Edmund kept mute. He didn't deny it since it was simply the truth.
"Okay. So you are ashamed of us all right?" Culbert commented on noticing Edmund's silence.
"Not that. I just want to create my own path. Follow my dreams. Someone must have started this, maybe the grand patron or his dad. I also want to begin a path. I want to live my way. I hope you understand me. This isn't about being a peasant or not. It's about doing what I love to do.
Culbert was left speechless. He was overwhelmed by Edmund's maturity. He never thought his son would become so responsible and ready to do something with his life. He had succeeded in convincing him.
"Okay. So what do you want to become." He asked with curiosity.
"Well, I want to become a physician."
