Chereads / The Curse of the Werewolf / Chapter 5 - The Turmoil

Chapter 5 - The Turmoil

She was only just few meters away from the werewolf, but unlike previously, she was brave enough to face the fear that was accumulating in her head and heart. Even though her hands were trembling, she managed to touch the werewolf's ferocious face, as if taming the beast like a puppy.

Instead of escaping and shrieking in despair at the wolf's horrendous look, she opted to kneel on the ground and stare at the wolf's face for the duration of the encounter. If the wolf used to be powerful and dangerous and capable of killing you with just one erroneous movement, it now has a soft expression, as if it is already under the care of its keeper.

"I would not make the mistake of assuming that the creatures like you which I only read about in books are real. What was your name? Are you Caspian, Roldan, Wolverine, or Bardulf? Do you truly exist? Do you still have colleagues?" The names Amelia mentioned were the werewolf characters she had read about in the novels.

Whereas most people are terrified the instant they encounter the face of a daring and fearsome wolf, Amelia is indeed not. It's as if she is a kid again, conversing with the wolf, as if it's a cat.

The werewolf just gave him a blank face, but its hiss could still be heard, though not as loudly as previously.

Later on, the wolf's hiss steadily became louder until it became a growl, causing Amelia's heart to shudder again. It's like a vicious beast that you can not control no matter what you do. She couldn't get up from her knees for no obvious reason when she observed the wolf's humble visage had been changed by a terrible and fearsome monster.

She had the impression that it was her final moments on earth.

But she was taken aback when the werewolf leapt too high to go behind her, such a giant leap that she could not even understand how the monster could do such a thing. If you look attentively, you will notice that its every action astounded her, and she can not really take her eyes off it until the creature boots touched the ground.

It was only at that point that she became aware of two vampires approaching their direction. All of whose features were frightful since their fangs and sharp claws were displayed at that precise time.

She abruptly rose up and walked to one side, looking for something that may assist her in killing the vampires so that she could save the werewolf like that creature rescuing her lately. She found a huge rock that she could throw in the vampires' faces and decided to use it. She merely noticed that the two vampires were laying on the ground, slowly dissipating, indicating that they were dead. While the werewolf had previously been with her, was no longer in the scene.

She even attempted searching in that way for the werewolf, but all she got was darkness.

When she could not really find the creature, she decided to take the scenic route to church and just decided to borrow Lesly's phone to contact Cora when she got home since she was at a loss for what to do when she encountered another vampire and found herself on the verge of death.

When Amelia arrived to the church, she took a deep breath. She was startled to find the door open, so she walked inside and discovered a vampire plotting to assassinate Father Nicolas, while the three nuns merely sobbed, it's likely that they were terrified at those moments. Amelia wasted no time and grabbed a huge wood from outside the church and slammed it into the vampire's head as hard as she could; thankfully, the vampire was completely oblivious of what was about to happen.

She instantly clutched Father Nicolas after striking the vampire out of worry that he might be wounded.

"Did he bite you? Are you all right? Is there anything hurting you?" After finding the priest already seated on the floor, she constantly inquired, most likely fearful of being victimized by the vampire. However, his sole answer to the woman was a passionate embrace in which he stated that he was in good health and had not been injured.

"Xena, he's still alive!" When Sister Catalina discovered that the vampire behind Amelia was still alive and preparing to harm her, she let out a loud scream which has almost occupied the whole church.

Fortunately, there was holy water on the table in front of the altar close by, which Amelia instantly poured on the vampire. She continues to pour holy water on the vampire until it is fully spent, and it is only then that she discovers that holy water is one of the few substances that can kill vampires because she notices it progressively dissipating, as it did previously when he was with the werewolf.

And, fearful of being attacked by too many vampires, she hurried straight to the church entrance and shut it, blocking it with a heavy chair to keep them safe.

Sister Catalina and Sister Gallelea decided to approach her while they were crying out of fear perhaps they could not really help but feel emotional due to the obvious dread they felt when they were attacked by extraordinary creatures. When Amelia was sure that they were one hundred percent safe because she had already closed the big door of the church and even blocked it with large and many chairs that people use whenever they go to church while she is distraught, she embraced the nuns with a kind welcome.

She can not really help but be concerned for their well-being, and she could not even help but believe that if she did not even show there, something horrible may have occurred to her loved ones. In order to rescue her friend's life and family, she goes to great lengths and there she had no idea that her family would be in danger as a result of what she did.

"It's a good thing you came because else we'd be laying inside this church with little hope of survival." Sister Gallelea spoke up in the midst of their intimate embrace, they were so close to being separated that it was difficult to tell them apart. Tears continued to pour from her eyes, which were still filled with fear and apprehension at the time.

When the three of them hugged, they decided to part ways. Sister Catalina and Sister Gallelea had damp cheeks, which Amelia noticed right away. She wiped them away with a smile on her lips, as if she was relieved to see and still be with them because they were on the verge of death and did not even know if they had a chance to live earlier.

"Yeah. It is really great, and all of us are secure, and you also killed the vampire without any doubts, because of the uneasiness I was experiencing before, my heart practically burst out of my chest. Suddenly the vampire appeared out of nowhere, he looked scary and his eyes were very red, in addition of this, his sharp nails and fangs. I did not think I would live, I thought it was the end of our lives, I am really afraid earlier, Xena." Amelia was taken aback when Sister Catalina recounted her the incident. As a result of Sister Catalina's words, Amelia's concern for them grew even greater.

"But don't worry about us, Wylla. We will probably be fine. Don't you realize how courageous we are? We still have a long life ahead of us, especially with Father Nicolas. You were so excellent at beating the vampire that you don't feel any dread or concern. I am beyond proud of you; you are possibly the first vampire executioner in our country. Perhaps the next day you will be the subject of a news headline, many people will appreciate you, and most will look up to you because of your fearlessness." When Sister Gallelea noticed Amelia's peculiar apprehension, she declared that she did not really want to experience it.

She was afraid that Amelia would blame herself for what had occurred to them tonight, and she did not want that to happen. She places a high importance on Amelia's sentiments, she does not in itself want to have an impact on the woman's psychological health. Simply because of this occurrence, which she definitely does not want to consider from any perspective.

"Is everything okay with you? Is there no discomfort in your body? Did you sustain any injuries? Please accept my apologies for being late. Why did you cross the church and open the door? I am aware that it was already closed when I—"

When Amelia was unexpectedly interrupted by Sister Damita, she just can not conclude what she was stating. She was in the back of them, which is in front of the altar then accompanying Father Nicolas to the front seat in order for him to calm down after what had transpired before.

"Because you ended up going without notifying anyone or obtaining permission from anybody, didn't you?" Sister Damita's unfathomable strictness is palpable. Amelia was on the verge of swallowing some saliva because of the tone and also because of what Sister Damita had said and based on that she was really angry.

Father Nicolas, on the other contrary, remained deafeningly quiet while holding the side of his head, he was undoubtedly in agony in his brain as a result of the vampire's previous attack. He was, in reality, prepared to die at any time, because the time he had stayed and spent in the world was sufficient for him. However, because of what had occurred previously, he sensed it was not yet time for him to die; perhaps he still had a responsibility to accomplish and fulfill.

"I am so sorry, I purely wanted to inform Cora about the spreading of vampire news so they don't keep the party continuing since I know that's what would attract the vampires' attention. I did not even consider saying my goodbyes since I knew you would not allow it." Amelia answered with a nod that she could hear the genuine regret in her voice for her leaving, which enraged Sister Damita.

The nun's irritation got much more irritating as a result of what she said. She was irritated since they had made sure that everyone was protected from vampires earlier, they is doing everything it can to secure all conceivable tunnels and prevent the vampires from entering their premises; they even doubled the lock to be sure. However, Amelia vanished out of nowhere, and they searched outdoors for her out of extreme panic, causing the vampire to enter.

"You will not be permitted, ofcourse! Amelia, you are getting on in years. Hopefully before you go out, hopefully before you leave, hopefully before you run away without saying goodbye, consider how people you have left behind will feel. If they are alarmed, like, what would have happened to them if you had not been around? What if they became anxious, fearful that something horrible might happen to you? But You did not think of that because stubbornness prevailed over you!" Sister Damita stated emphatically at that moment that she did not even care if Father Nicolas overheard her or how he would respond; all that mattered to her was to be educated about and rectify Amelia's carelessness, which she knew would be disastrous if it happened again.

"Amelia, I hope that you would learn to examine what others say and their opinions from time to time, since it is not just for their benefit, but also for your own. What if something worse occurs here? What if you find us all dead? How would you feel, huh?" She continued with what she wanted to say but at that moment the softness of her voice seemed to return as she looked directly into Amelia's eyes which now could be seen so much sadness in her eyes.

"Perhaps it is much better if we willl discuss about it tomorrow; in the meanwhile, everybody should go to bed and rest, since the three of us, Catalina and Lesly, will be keeping an eye on the entire church for our safety." Sister Gallelea was disturbed in the scorching scene at the time, and she realized that if it continued and did not end sooner, the problem would worsen.

"No, Gallelea, it is indeed best to talk about something like this. What if she disappears again by the time we are asleep? What if it becomes worse? Don't tell me you are siding with her this once again. She violated our order, which was clearly for her own good." Sister Catalina claimed that her moist eyes turned to Sister Gallelea in such moments, and all she wanted was for them to stop squabbling.

"Do you think you can hear yourself, Damita? I prefer that no one intends to take sides, so I am stuck in the middle. Because I know that no matter which side I take, I am always wrong, would you now tell me that I am compromising once more?" Sister Gallela instantly responded that she seemed to take Damita's statements at face value since she was now attempting to avoid siding with Amelia even though she was well aware that what she had done was gravely wrong. But she could not really understand why her sister did not even like it and marked it as incorrect.

"I know you are succumbing to her once more, Gallelea, but do you think I did not even hear what you were speaking before? You still admire her vampire-killing prowess, don't you? What if something awful occurred to her and what if not only one vampire had entered here before? And you want her to be the centerpiece of a news story because of what she did, huh? What if the vampires are after her because she assassinates their comrades? Oh, you did not think of that because you don't consider the consequences of everything that happens because you don't broaden your horizons!" Sister Damita spoke vigorously as she looked into her sister's eyes full of irritation because she thought that once again she would tolerate Amelia's mistake instead of correcting it.

Because of their argument, even if Father Nicolas wanted to talk about that incident and stop their commotion he could not because of the failing that he caused when the vampire attacked him earlier, he had scars on body and he could not cope with it because of his old age as well. Right now Lesly wipes her wounds with a cold cloth, and even she doesn't want to get into the mess that's happening to the sisters today.

"Again, I am wrong? I am narrow-minded? Damita, I am doing everything I can to avoid tolerating Wylla's errors and instead allowing you to rectify them, since I don't want us to fight again. But why don't you see it? Is that how you think of me, too vulnerable? Foolish? Yes, I am stupid! Yes, I will admit it!" Sister Gallelea was unavoidably affected by Sister Damita's final comments, therefore she was just as sad as she spoke those things directly in front of her sister.

"You don't understand me anymore, Gallelea. You are making the situation worse again. Do I think we have already talked about this matter?" Sister Damita explained that she was holding her head because she was in pain in that area or because she was frustrated at the time. Because neither sibling wants them to go into difficulty with her sibling; instead, she just wants to rectify their errors because it is a symbol of real love, but it appears that their perceptions diverge there.

As she listened to her siblings argue, Catalina stayed nothing and merely leaned to one side. She did not want to get involved in what they were discussing since she knew it would only make matters worse. Even though they had discussed in depth previously, she certainly was not expecting the two would fight again in less than a day. Meanwhile, Amelia, next to her, was quietly crying while listening to the nuns arguing, it had been silently sobbing as it listened to the nuns' words one by one as they rocked the line.

"Yes, we have already talked but it seems like you are not following what we talked about. Damita, I am fed up with the fact that we are always arguing. I am fed up with this system I am fed up—"

Sister Catalina was not able to finish what she wanted to say when Father Nicolas suddenly got up from his seat and confronted the two of them to stop their quarrel.

"Enough, Damita, Gallelea! It's like the both of you are toddlers fighting over the same toy! You are not even embarrassed since you are standing in front of the altar! Is that what you want every young person to aspire to? You are still nuns and revered across our community. Do you think I am unaware that you have been bickering and fighting all of your life? You have always been like that since you were a child; when will you change? Do you really want me to perish first, and then you will alter your manner?" Father Nicolas spoke solemnly as he gazed into the eyes of Sister Damita and Sister Gallela, both of whom appeared to be irritated with one other.

"I am sorry, Father."

"Sorry for this incident, Father."

The nuns spoke out at once, dropped their heads, possibly because of their humiliation at the time And they were well aware that what they had done was wrong, especially because they were in God's home, but they had been swept away by their emotions and indignation.
