Adlai awoke with a throbbing headache, his vision slowly clearing to reveal that he was lying in a bed beneath the covers, propped up against the headboard. He was clad in pajamas. Casting a glance to his side, he noticed Camilla.
Confusion clouded his eyes as he pondered her presence until the memories of their conversation with Cillian rushed back, widening his gaze.
Struggling to move, Adlai could only manage to turn his head. "Mother."
He found himself surprisingly capable of speech, given Cillian's warning that they wouldn't be able to communicate for long.
In a panic, he cried out, "Mother, wake up!"
Quinn stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She experienced a moment of disorientation before regaining her bearings.
When her thoughts finally cleared, she glanced beside her. "Espen?"
