Chapter 4 - NEWNESS

Never had I ever slept, dreamt and felt better than the night after my encounter with Tamar. The feeling was indescribably, and incredibly awesome!

It was like my head was up in the clouds of heaven while my feet were on the ground of earth, thereby, receiving utterances from divinity down to humanity; like I missed my way but in the right direction, therefore, my destination was assured; and like I found the other half of me which I never knew, hence, I would ever remain incomplete, and miserable without it.

I sprinted up from my bed early the following day, like I was getting late for an appointment.

"Dad, good morning," for the first time in a long while I called my dad, 'dad,' with a smile for that matter. He was speechless for a moment, before he answered, "You're up early today."

"Yeah, dad, I don't wanna miss or be late for my first class. "Are you sure all is fine, since when did you start having interest for school, let alone hurrying, inorder to meet up with a class?" he was confusedly anxious in his questioning. "Since yesterday, dad," I gave him a bright, smiling face that meant, 'come on... calm down, dad, there's no cause for worries, I am a changed dude now!' "Really?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Yep... life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!"

"Woo... I see... someone has been doing some reading!" he exclaimed.

That was the first time, as far as I could remember, I had a fair, friendly, familially conversation with my dad.

Now, do you think I was being too optimistic, since my encounter with Tamar?

She was way out of my league for sure, but I strongly believed there was a chance for me, was I right?

She came to me first, though just to offer an assistance.

However, don't you think if I was out of her league, then she wouldn't in any case care about me?

So, I was happy, at least, someone like her - for the first time - made me feel so important.

Well, I also believed and still believe in possibilities. There was a purpose why I survived life's ugly experiences till such a period, right?

Someone once said, 'Consider the whole population to be blind. Then on what basis would Leagues even exist?... You should be the last person estimating your own worth.'

So, I just felt - at least - it wasn't in my position to disdain myself in someone's life. If they saw me special, why then should I feel any lesser?

Gosh! I just realized again, I never got to ask Tamar anything about her, if she was even a student in my school. How could I be so dumb!

I picked up my phone to call her, "I wonder how she would react; hope she doesn't snub me?" I thought as I dial her number.

It rang for a few seconds but there was no answer. I tried the second time, still no response.

'Hm... could it be that she gave me a wrong contact, or doesn't wanna talk to me? Anyways, she had every right not to. What was I even thinking, that she would just take me as a friend overnight, so easily? Come on, Mike, wake up! This isn't a movie. This is reality!' My footsteps gradually went slower.

Few minutes later, my phone rang. Wow, it was her!

I excitedly rushed the phone to my ear. "Hi, it's me, Mike, remember me, yesterday?"

"Hello, Mike! How can I forget? Am so sorry, I was busy with breakfast, so I couldn't answer the phone earlier." She apologized.

"That's not a problem. I understand. I'm off to school already, and I..."

"Yeah, about that, I wanted to ask about the school you attend yesterday, but it escaped me," she quickly cut me.

"Lassiter High School..." I stumbled over my voice.

"Oh, I see. Mine, actually, is Pace Academy."

"I thought as much," I whispered within.

She continued, "I wish we attended same school, but that's not gonna be a problem. We are friends now. "Tamar!" I overheard someone called in the background.

Oh, am so sorry, I have to go now. I will call you after school. Take care of yourself."

"Alright, you too, bye," the call ended.

I got to school earlier than usual.

"Hi, Mike, you are early. This is unlike you," my seatmate, Bryan, asked with an awkward smile.

Well, you could say Bryan was my best friend, a very funny, white dude.

Right, I didn't mention him earlier. Life had treated me so badly, and how could I possibly remember I had a best friend?

I met this dude my first day at the school, just by the entrance.
