Chereads / Thieves And Royalty / Chapter 7 - Frost

Chapter 7 - Frost

"Remind me again why we're going to the kingdom of Permafrost?" Charlotte asked as they were gathering supplies from a town. "Well my dear companion, Permafrost is full of the most delightful things, as well as a few of my family members!". "Are they criminals?". Nora hesitates before saying "No.... Completely normal people.". Charlotte then realizes something and says "So, what exactly is your plan with me?".

"Well I was gonna let my father have you and leave a ransom note but now ha ha ha.... I need to see if there is anyone left for the ransom note!" She responds. She then turns to look at her, seeing the rabbit from earlier in a little basket. "How's the rabbit doing?" She asked as they were walking back to their little camp. "Lucky is doing fine, wanna pet him?".

She sighs and scratches one of his ears. "Well aren't you a cute little-". Lucky then proceeds to bite the finger of the poor girl. "ACK- SON OF A BITCH!!!!" Nora yelled looking at the red finger. The rabbit then proceeded to do the equivalent of glare at her, sinking further into the basket. ".... I'm gonna kill him.". "What?". Nora then bolted towards them, the rabbit jumping out the basket to avoid the tackle.

When she looked up, she had fallen on top of the princess.... Again. "We've got to stop seeing each other like this." Charlotte told her. Nora got off of her, pulling her hood over herself trying to hide the spreading blush, glaring at the rabbit. She swore she could see him smirk. Lucky then gave her a look like 'Apologise'. She sighed and said "Sorry for falling for you- ON- FALLING ON YOU!".

She then grumbled curses about the rabbit and said "I'm gonna go steal something!".

.

She returned a few hours later, to see Charlotte trying to shoot a bow. Her hand shook as she released the arrow, it only went a couple of feet. "Oh geez, let me help!" Nora said seeing Lucky hop out of the way. She got behind her and said "Your stance is improper as hell.". She wrapped her arm around her, straightening her back. "Point the arrow higher, or it'll never reach its target." She said calmly.

She did as she was told and raised the bow. "Now just pull back, and shoot." She said sitting down next to Lucky in the grass. Lucky then gave her a look that said 'There's no way she could ever shoot tha-'. She released the arrow, and it stuck directly into a tree. "YES!" Charlotte cheered. The rabbit and the thief looked at each other and Nora said "I demand we form a temporary truce to defend the butterfly.".

Lucky did a tiny nod and she said "Alright, enough of that, we should get moving.".

.

The group of three were moving into colder areas, and Charlotte said "So, who were those guys chasing you from earlier?". Nora frowned saying "Lucas Cardet. He's from a rival group of bandits, all of which hate me and anything to do with my father. He considers himself a threat, but he's all bark and no bite!". "He shot arrows at us!". Nora just waved it off and responded "I get shot at all the time!".

"You're a thief, what's new?!". She laughed and said "At least we're safe!". A few minutes later, the two were officially in kingdom grounds. "Hey, Nora." Charlotte said once they stopped. "Shoot." She said eating something. ".... NORA!" Charlotte yelled, forcing the girl over. "Oh my god- WHAT?!". She handed her a paper that had an image of her face on it.

Underneath said "WANTED: $1,500,000 for capture.". "YES! NEW RECORD!!!!" Nora shouted holding up the wanted poster. "Nora, this is not okay! This means there will be bounty hunters after you, and do you know how much it says for you being brought dead?" Charlotte said in protest. "What- a measly 200,000?" She said enjoying herself. "No, 3,000,000.". She stopped smiling and snagged the wanted poster from her.

"Oh.... Oh shit.". She looked up from it and said "Okay, so this could be a problem. I'm definitely gonna have a couple bounty hunters on me, but what could go wrong?". A couple of seconds later.... The two of them rode into town, hoods covering both of their faces. "This is stupid, you're a princess, it can't be that hard to coax a bunch of people out of killing me!" Nora whisper yelled.

"Yes, well so are you! However these people don't know I'm safe, so seeing me with you, is going to draw suspicion!" Charlotte responded. Charlotte then looked around and said "Look, this place has royalty of its own, if I can talk to one of them, I'm sure we can work something out.". The two then walked up to a large white castle, icicles hanging off the sides.

"Here we are, come on, let's go to the back of the castle." Nora said. She took a dagger off her side, jumped up, and stuck it into the wall. She grabbed onto it, and used it to climb through a window. She helped up Charlotte, tucking Lucky into a bag on her side. "I can't believe we are breaking into a castle!" Charlotte said. "No guts, no fame, no glory!". "Aren't you even a little concerned?!". Nora thought about it and said "I broke into a castle once, how hard could it be to get through this one?".

She then opened a door to see several guards sharpening their weapons. A minute passed. Then a second. And a third. Until finally she closed the door and ran. "RUN!" She said making a break for the closest window. This was until an arrow went through her shoulder, the same one as last time. "GOD DAMN IT!" She said clutching her arm. She turned around to see a person her age holding a crossbow.

The person was male, short white hair, long white cape styled to look like feathers, white royal clothing with a few hints of cyan, and frosty blue eyes, with pale skin. "Move, and the next one goes in between your eyes." He stated calmly. She felt a chill go up her spine at his gaze. 'Who the hell is this guy?!' She thought not moving an inch. "Who the hell are you?!".

He didn't respond, but instead took a good look at her and smiled. "Nora Night, to what do I owe the pleasure? Guess I'll be the one to cash in that bounty~". Charlotte ran over and said "Orion, what the heck?!". She got in front of her and said "Stand down, and please, no more arrows!".
