Chapter 5 - Name Your Destruction

{Hello~… Kiddo, I really need that name, yeah? It's the final part of the ritual. Without it, I am incomplete, and entirely unable to help you break this hellhole.} The Avatar reminded, and Jason frowned thoughtfully.

Names are extremely important to beings involved with Magic. They can bind you like chains, or redefine your existence into a different species. Worship, Sacrifice, Summoning - all had high requirements for names.

Which was part of why Jason made his circle so covered in Runes. Runes are letters that represent different concepts, and in themselves can be used to achieve different spells. They are also a part of language, and can be combined into words for more complex names and Magics. Jason didn't have a Name to base his summons on, so he tried to cover all possibilities with extra Runes.

The chant, where he stated the being summoned was to resonate with him, was a safety measure. With so many Runes, there were almost infinite numbers of creatures that could answer his summons. An experienced Summoner would train their mind and Magic until they could withstand the pressure of calling five, ten, or even more beings at once. As a child, if Jason summoned too many beings, his mind would be torn to shreds, and his body would explode.

This was not an outcome Jason wanted.

So, a name for an Avatar of Destruction - well, it's voice sounds female, so perhaps the Name should be gender specific? Like Sophie? Or maybe a name that was more fluid - like Charlie, Daniel, or Leslie?

{None if the above for me. I want a name with teeth! One that means something frightening!} The Avatar interjected, and Jason nodded to himself calmly. These names are all traditional, and have been used endlessly. It's not appropriate for something as unique as she is.

Then, following the meaningful names line of thought - Dementia, Decay, Rage, Destroy, Destiny, Agony, Grieve…

{NO! Those names have meaning, but I want something that sounds lovely.}

Hmmm, a name with beauty and meaning… Jason thought hard, and could only come up with one - Gloria Mortalis. The Glorious Death.

{Pretty, meaningful and scary - I love it! Good job kiddo~} Gloria giggled sweetly. {Now, what shape am I?}

Jason blinked in surprise. He saw her in the summoning circle - a black scaly floating orb.

{Come now, you can't be that dumb. Okay, maybe you CAN. What you saw was the Seed of Destruction. Before we met, that's all I was - a Seed. No mind, no soul, no true life at all. There are many Seeds in the Abyss, waiting to live. Your sacrifice gave me sentience, transforming me into the Avatar of Destruction.}

Then, if Gloria was only a Seed, she didn't have a proper physical existence… Jason wondered how he could summon something so strange…

{With too many Runes and a big Sacrifice. Oops, we'll talk about this later - the doctor is coming to check up on your condition.} Gloria stated, and stayed quiet as the door to the cell slowly swung open…
