Chapter 59 - Chapter 59 - chandeliers hanging down ornate ceilings

Faun nibbled his bottom lip with his teeth while waiting for the two werewolves to come back. He couldn't eat because he was too tense, unable to guess what Declan's response would be.

He was so strung up that he jolted when the door's handle was fiddled with. He put himself together just as Ash and Cade swept into the room.

Ash waved something excitedly and Faun felt his stomach do a funny little flip.

"I'm surprised he gave us the key without hesitation." Ash chatted away as he unlocked the cuff around Faun's wrist.

Cade had moved closer as well, no longer standing by the door but closer to the bed where Faun could clearly see his features.

Faun raised a brow at Ash's words but he didn't give in to the urge to be curious.

"He was in a really bad mood, Cade and I thought we were going to die young."

Faun frowned slightly; he couldn't tell if Ash was joking about them getting hurt, he was also troubled against his will at learning that Declan was in a bad mood.

He had relaxed far too early around them. Maybe it was because he didn't know them before, or maybe he believed that they wouldn't hurt him because of Declan.

As much as Declan made his heart ache like salt on a cut, he had always protected him.

"Thanks." He muttered in a quiet voice, rubbing his wrist.

The handcuffs had been quite comfortable so they didn't leave even a faint bruise. It didn't matter how comfortable they had been though, Faun didn't want them around his wrist again.

He wasn't about to voice out his complaints though, he knew that Declan's bodyguards would cuff him up again as soon as he was done using the restroom.

When they directed him to the hallway that led to the bathroom, he made his way there gingerly.

The bathroom was just as luxurious as the bedroom had been which was fine and all, he planned to take his time in here.

After relieving himself, he gave the place a quick look around, searching for windows.

He was disappointed at what he found. Not only were they tens of feet above the ground, the windows were barred.

He reluctantly made his way out after splashing water on his face and drying off with the soft, cloud-like towels.

"Your food is getting cold." Ash immediately said to him as soon as he stepped back into the bedroom.

Somehow, he had been expecting them to stand outside the bathroom doors, but if they were well aware that it would be impossible to escape, it would have been useless to.

"Aren't you going to cuff me again?" He found himself asking after he was settled by the side of the bed, within reach of the tray of food.

Ash made a non-committal noise at the back of his throat. "As long as we're here, we don't need to."

His flippant tone made Faun's expression turn cloudy. He wanted to hang onto the notion that Declan was keeping him chained up to his bed because he was a cruel werewolf prince.

"Unless you don't want us here." Cade spoke up for the first time, studying him intently.

Faun took a deep breath, it was easy to be bitter and tell them to leave while refusing to eat but he would only be compounding his problems by doing that.

This way, he got more freedom and he could start to gather clues on figuring out a way to get out of the clutches of werewolves.

"No, no, it's fine." He corrected a little hastily, forcing himself to concentrate on eating.

There was a thick rug covering the floor of the bedroom, it was a dark red which added to the ambience of the room.

Ash and Cade were taking it easy at a far corner of the room. They were sprawled on the ground, too far away for Faun to pick up on their discussion.

Faun took another deep breath; it was easier to think when two intimidating werewolves weren't staring him down.

He made himself eat the food brought for him, there was really nothing else to do.

He couldn't get a look around because the werewolves were still in the room and when they left, he would be cuffed up again.

"I want to take a nap." He muttered quietly when he was done eating.

Ash paused in his motions of picking up the tray. "Uh, sure." He allowed, waiting patiently for Faun to get comfortable on the bed first.

Faun told himself that he didn't see Ash looking like he would rather not cuff him up.

"Bye! Don't hesitate to ring if you need anything." Ash waved as he made his way out, Cade holding the tray in tow.

Faun didn't respond; he should stop getting so comfortable being here.

Ash talking about ringing made him think of Isla and Lou and in a flurry of motions, he shot upright. He could call them!

Moving quickly, he manoeuvred himself so that he was within reach of the phone, staring at the landline in disappointment.

He wasn't sure he knew how to use that, not to mention that he didn't know Lou or Isla's number by heart.

His phone wasn't with him too, he had been holding it though when the werewolves caught up to him. Declan probably took it so he wouldn't be able to reach out to anyone.

Faun returned back to his previous position deflated, his previous burst of energy had burned out, leaving exhaustion and sadness in its wake.

Declan didn't have to bring him back. If he was the werewolf prince, couldn't he just let Faun go?

He didn't fall asleep, although that was what he told Ash and Cade to get rid of them.

Instead, he laid flat on the bed and stared up at the high, ornate ceilings, a grand chandelier hanging down from the centre of the room.

He couldn't fall asleep even if he wanted to, Declan would be back any moment from now.

He didn't want to be unconscious when that happened, he didn't trust Declan anymore.
