Chapter 29 - Entering the Army

The news of the war was not lost.

It is the thirteenth day of October in the Kingdom of Odin, one thousand three hundred and sixty, and the church bells have just struck their second chime.

The city of Figo had been closed yesterday, and only entry was allowed-not absolutely, of course, as long as you were rich enough to pay a fee at the city lord's office and leave.

Everyone knew the news that the Kaiser had hit.

There was some trepidation, but at least the streets were much less crowded.

Maybe he is busy at home digging tunnels or something.

Joseph is not sure.

....

The notice was posted at the city gate early in the morning, to the effect that because of the urgent war in Han River at the front line, young and strong males need to be drafted to form something like a support team and immediately go to Han River to support them, and each person who voluntarily signs up will be given five hundred big Odin coins as compensation, and there are other rewards if there is excellent performance in the war.

The notice shows that at least 10,000 people need to be drafted.

If there are not enough people voluntarily enrolled, then it will be forced to be drafted, and the forced draft will only give 300 big Odin coins.

The entire city of Figo now has a population of about 700,000, so it is not very difficult to temporarily recruit 10,000 people.

As the saying goes, money moves people, and at no time should anyone doubt the attractiveness of five hundred large Odin coins.

The people who signed up soon rose in a long line from the city gate.

"Jose, I'll have to revisit you."

Dragan whispered, Joseph had the foresight to bring him to the early line waiting to sign up, "How do you know it's true to give five hundred Odin coins for a Is the city lord's writing your cousin's uncle? "

"I guessed." Joseph could not tell him something that might sound unbelievable.

"Well," Dragan looked at the token in his hand, a small bronze cube, "Jose, how about I fuck the tavern with you after this job? ..."

"Together we'll have another thousand Odin coins.

Maybe we can buy out that store next door."

"That sounds good..."

I think so too.

Give you all the money you make, I just need to drink for free!

....

The appointment was to leave from the south gate early tomorrow morning, needing to get to the Han River as soon as possible.

Maybe Karta had already been breached and the Kaiser were flocking to Fermil, the main city on the Han River.

The conscription went surprisingly well, with 8,000 more men than expected, which made the lord of the city, Quinn, feel a little more relaxed, for if the Han River was lost, there was no guarantee what the king would do to him.

The city lord certainly can not be, as he will not be caught in priso...uinn some worry.

The rest of the time is left for this temporary formation of soldiers and horses to prepare.

Quinn ordered a large pile of wagons to be prepared, loaded with provisions such as food, weapons and equipment.

Box after box of stuff was moved from the armory to the south city, and soon it was piled up like a mountain.

The armory, of course, was in the western city.

As he sipped his drink, Joseph bragged to Dragan, "Honestly, if I were the guard of the armor... could probably get dozens of Odin coins a month."

He pointed to the array of things in the armory and said,

If embezzlement is found to be not the case, can the head not be saved?"

"Jose, you are still young and do not understand the things..." Dragan sighed and shook his head in disappointment.

....

Joseph simply prepared a set of clothes, packed and backed up, just waiting for the next day to join the army.

Joseph actually does not lack the five hundred Odin coins.

Selling alcohol is just a pastime for him, and going to war to join the army is also a pastime.

....

It's a coincidence that the next day, when 18,000 people gathered in black outside the South Gate, the bard from Kaiser arrived as well.

Dressed in a white robe, with a beard, hair coiled up with white fabric, and a somewhat dry and thin face, he looked like an Arab from another planet.

He approached and did not stop, but waited for the people around him to make their way before he walked to the south city gate below and sat cross-legged.

Only when he slightly inhaled, he began to chant, "Great God of Heaven! I praise you! "

"The God of Heaven shines as bright as Orpheus (the Aden word for the sun), and your servant, Abji Stechia Romisho, asks you in Figo for permission for this just war with Odin."

....

"Why does he have two last names?" Dragan asked, slightly puzzled.

"Kaiser people do that occasionally." Romisho would be his maternal grandfather's surname, or possibly some place name in Kaiser.

Joseph replied.

Abuji, the bard, chanted for about half an hour before finishing, and then contentedly received the ten Odin coins the city lord had given him.

After a bumpy ride, he was ready to go to the city of Fico for a bite to eat and then report to the bard's guild in Fico.

It should be noted that this is a privilege exclusive to bards.

If it is anyone else from Kaiser, they will be arrested and interrogated unless they can prove that they are dragging their families to immigrate.

Eighteen thousand people are now basically divided into ranks; should be completed overnight yesterday, more than a hundred columns of column-commanders are served by the city lord's own soldiers.

Dragan, because of the relationship with Joseph, enrolled together, lucky to be assigned to the same column-of course, Dragan thought such an allocation and he secretly slipped to the registration office five small Odin coins that could not be separated.

"Jose, how old are you?"

"How old?"

When Joseph was a little surprised, should he tell him he was over two thousand or three thousand years old, he said with a shake, "Twenty-six years old."

"I can't tell, I thought you were only in your teens."

"And you?"

"Me? You may not believe it when you say it, but I'm only forty..."

"There's nothing you can't believe." Joseph wondered what Dragan was trying to say.

"Ha?! I thought you'd think I was fift...ou know, they all think that, and if I shaved my beard, they'd probably think I was thirty! "

"I don't think like them, Dragan," Joseph said, shaking his head, "and I doubt you'll live to be fifty."

"Hey, hey, fifty is easy for me!"

This is not nonsense.

The average life expectancy of the population now is about forty years, but there are not a few people who live fifty years.

As we speak, Joseph and Dragan's column-commander, who also integrated his column, only needs to choose five more captains, as well as twenty-five captains to complete.

"Gentlemen, I am your temporary column-commander, Geli Aza, and from now until the end of the war, we will fight together."

This was a rather burly man with short hair, dark skin, and nothing special about his appearance, except for a very long scar that ran from his forehead to his ear.

"Aza?"

"It's of the Spiritual clan."

Joseph looked at his firm muscles and confirmed that he was of the Spiritual clan.
