"This is a long term adjustment in how we protect our border," Graeme said the next morning.

The leaders and elders were gathered in a large meeting room on the second floor of the pack house with pastries, fruit, and beverages lining the tables. Gia had practically been dragged out of the house by her brother, and even then she asked if they could drive the Jeep instead of running there. David simply rolled his eyes and took off into the woods leaving her with little choice but to follow him. 

But now that they were in the room with all of their elders and the comforting scents of herbal teas and coffee, her heart felt safer. She sat between her Grandma Sylvia and her mother, both powerful healers who had mentored her growing up. Just their close proximity soothed all of the nervous edges that had jutted out recently.
