Theo had resisted the immediate objection that formed in his mind when Cora said she wanted to sleep alone. Of course he would respect that—how could he not? Especially when she said she didn't think she would be able to sleep with him in the same room.
But now he was spread out on the couch, hand clenching his forehead as he battled the desire to be next to her. Even if they were not going to mate, he needed to be by her side. It was one thing being in the same house and being down here, knowing she was safe upstairs. But every part of him longed to feel her next to him. His presence longed for hers, and now he couldn't sleep.
Over an hour had gone by with him imagining someone climbing in the window up there, taking her back—stealing her away to Gray Vale once again. They had been kept apart in Gray Vale, and now they were being kept apart here. It was maddening.
