While Cora was in the shower, she checked her back to see if there was any evidence of where her wings had grown. But the skin was the same. It felt the same. It was smooth. It wasn't even sore in that area despite how painful it had been when they came forth.
Maybe it was just the one time. Maybe the Camazotz had made them appear somehow, and now that they were gone, she wouldn't have anything to worry about. She wasn't Queen of Gray Vale after all, so she didn't need the wings. She wasn't a royal.
But the conversation with the man who called himself a walker of the dimensions made its way back into her thoughts. She wished he would have given her more information about who he was and what he meant about her providing balance before he disappeared. Why did everything have to be so complicated?
