"How are you feeling?" Theo asked his quiet mate after they had made it out of the pack house successfully without alerting anyone to their presence. "Do you need to rest?"
She nodded, hands in her pockets, walking close enough to him that they were bumping into each other. "Yes, please," she said.
"You are afraid," he said, studying the feeling that he was sensing from her. "You don't need to be afraid here. I promise."
"It's funny, because it is a different kind of fear. Facing Ambrosia and Rayth and eight other realms of vampire leadership and the Camazotz… that was one thing. That was one kind of fear, but it was one that I was used to. I was the… the victim there, you know? And here…" she trailed off, eyes darting around the darkness. "Here I am afraid that I am the monster."
"Why?" He asked, stopping in his tracks and fishing her hands out of her pockets so he could hold them in his own. "We are all monsters."
