"I am going to find out what it wants," Cora said, taking in a deep breath and releasing it. Now her breaths even felt different. It was as if she had two bodies—hers and Theo's—and each one of them was breathing together, each set of lungs lending her their air.
A chorus of objections rose around her. There were many "what"s and gasps and scoffs and a gruff "like hell you are," from her father, but Theo gazed at her silently, struck by the strength that he now felt that was hers. He knew his own strength and how that felt—the physical strength of his body, his ability to shift into his wolf, the Alpha commands that rose from him effortlessly when needed and brought others into submission. But Cora's strength was different. It was deeper. It was hidden. It felt like an endless network of entangled life burgeoning below the surface, and he was in awe of it.
"It is not safe," he said simply with the tenderness of now understanding her in an entirely new way.
