Cora felt lightheaded all throughout dinner, because the tension did not ease. After being introduced to each leader of the eight other realms, she noticed that every set of black eyes in the room that was not either feasting on the raw meat laid in front of them or darting suspiciously to their companions was set on her. It was like Ambrosia had brought a ticking bomb to dinner, and they were wondering who it was going to land on when it detonated. The floating red flowers that continued to threaten the table before circulating back to the ceiling didn't help matters.
"How is your meat? Cooked okay?" Rayth asked quietly, and Cora frowned.
Why was he acting like such a normal person? Was it because the atmosphere was so extreme that now Rayth actually seemed acceptable? Or did he know what Ambrosia's plan was tonight?
"Yes," she smiled politely, poking at the food and trying to pretend to eat.
