It was odd coming back to the treehouse under these circumstances. Graeme was holding August's hand as they approached.
They had taken Evie to hang out with her elder lolas Maggie, Sylvia, and Charlotte at the pack house, and Theo was sleeping at home, per his mother's orders. It didn't take too much convincing. Before they had left, he was already snoring hard.
"Can you believe this?" Graeme grumbled, staring at the steps and then tilting his head upward to the seventy feet above where the house structure was. "Our story started here, and now Zagan has invaded that too."
"Our story started in a lot of places," she squeezed his hand and moved in front of him, forcing him to face her instead. "Suicide Forest, Eliade, the outpost, here… so many places, Graeme. Zagan isn't ruining any of it."
