Sage and Gia moved through the white woods silently, walking under the skeletal trees that resembled upright corpses drained of life. Gia was thankful that Sage had brought her with him, but this was still like a waking nightmare. She had not wanted to come back. It reeked of blood. It was the most terrifying place that she could imagine.
Once the towering peaks of the palace came into view, Sage stopped, his eyes tracking the creatures that were flying around it like guards. Those were not vampires. Gia had not mentioned anything about them.
"Do you see them?" He whispered.
"What?" Her eyes widened, darting to the sky where his gaze had caught on something.
Sage pressed his lips together, thinking. If Gia couldn't see them, the creatures were only visible in the Veiled. He didn't know what to make of it.
