"Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking. It would explain why the corpses aren't harmed much and how they got so many of them." I said without much thought.
Alesha's face paled, as she nearly looked like a ghost. Leo's arms slumped down his body, before rising again.
He furrowed his brows while saying in a determined voice: "This just means that we have more of a reason to destroy those bastards! Not only did they kill thousands of people, but they even experimented on them!"
Tony's dark face brightened up a tiny bit.
"That's a good way of looking at it. I guess we'll just have to do our best."
"Although I already knew that many people died... Seeing it like that was still shocking..." Alesha said while still dazed from surprise.
Kevin slowly clapped his hands, before picking up more of the documents. "Remember, we're still in enemy territory. Let's quickly pick up the papers and then search through the rest of this place. We can look at the documents after we are in a safe place."
The crew each picked up a few papers and stuffed them in their pockets, totaling twelve pieces of paper, including #EXPERIMENT 1194.
They started walking through the corridor again, and soon they found the first corner of the two corridors.
A dozen meters before the corner, everyone slowed down their pace and made their steps lighter.
The group steadily approached the corner of the hallway. They were just one meter away from being able to see the rest of the hallway when hurried footsteps suddenly sounded from the back.
Everyone quickly turned their heads around, and they saw a group of four demons charging at them.
The faces of the crew flashed a shocked look, except for Bryan's. Their expressions quickly turned fierce in less than a second, as they stopped trying to be silent.
"Enemies! There are enemies in the base!" One of the four demons screamed while striking with his sharp nails.
As Bryan was the one at the back of the group, he was the first one to be targeted by a demon.
Bryan's mouth gaped open, and his eyes turned wide. This completely contrasted with the bored look in his monotonous golden eyes, as though he was an amateur actor.
Bryan's body quickly fell backward, right before the sharp nails connected.
Right before his back landed on the ground, he grabbed the demon's outstretched arm and threw him over his head, straight down towards the floor using the momentum of his fall, combined with a small portion of his strength.
~Crack~
The rigid floor cracked under the pressure of the demon that fell head first onto the ground, heavily wounding his head and breaking his neck ultimately killing the demon.
"Darn!" One of the demons shouted as he watched one of his brethren die.
Before another demon could get close to the group of humans, a maelstrom of steps sounded from around the corner of the hallway.
As Kevin was the closest to the corner, he quickly walked backward and peeked around the corner.
He then swiftly turned back and rushed to the three demons while drawing his sword out of his scabbard.
"A ton of demons are coming! At least ten times our number! Quickly get rid of these three demons, before preparing to engage the larger group! Beware of any possible attacks from the back while fighting the demons!" Kevin gave out orders while slashing at another demon.
Alesha and Tony quickly joined in to immediately take care of the demons, while Leo and Iris went towards the corner, attempting to do something to cripple the incoming demon group. Bryan also got back up to his feet and stayed in the middle of the hallway.
Leo brandished his gauntlets, before punching the wall with a bit of his strength.
Leo's eyes squinted, as he watched the wall around his hand slightly fracture.
Standing beside the corner, he waited until the demons were right by the other side of the corner, before taking a step back, winding up his right arm, and smashing the corner of the hallway.
~Boom~
The sharp spikes of Leo's gauntlet completely shattered the corner and sent splinters of white stones toward the incoming demons.
The sharp splinters impaled a couple of the closer demons, wounding them before they could react. The ones in the back were relatively unharmed.
By this time, the three demons on the opposite side of the hallway were dead, and the others quickly ran toward the remaining demon group.
With her silver spear, Iris took advantage of the chaos and smog created by the stone splinters. Clenching the edge of the spear's shaft, she struck the closest demons who were already wounded.
Repeatedly extending and retracting her spear in a linear motion, she pierced the heads of a couple of demons, immediately ending their lives.
Blood gushed out of their heads, dyeing the silver spear in red and making the nearby demons even redder.
"Grrr, charge at them!"
"Go! Attack!"
"Kill all of them!"
The demons collectively grunted with bloodshot eyes.
Iris, who was the closest to the enemies, swiftly retraced her steps and stood beside the others. They stared at the closely clumped group of demons charging at them.
Kevin grabbed a grenade and removed the safety pin, before throwing it at the group of demons.
The grenade flew towards the demons before the closest demon struck the grenade in midair with the back of his hand.
The grenade rebounded back, before exploding in the air.
~Boom~
~Rumble~
The hallway shook slightly, as the humans took a few steps away from the smoke. Demons quickly appeared right through the smoke and continued rushing forward.
Kevin threw another grenade towards the middle of the incoming demons, this time with a higher arc so the demons couldn't immediately throw it back.
The demons at the front increased their speed, while the rest ran back, away from the blast radius.
In the meantime, Leo punched the ground and grabbed a few broken-off pieces of rocks.
~Boom~
~Rumble~
The grenade exploded, and the hallway shook once again, this time slightly harder than the last time.
The explosion cut off the demons at the front from the demons in the back. The humans made use of this fact and quickly ran towards the closer demons.
Tony, Kevin, Alesha, Iris, Leo, and Bryan all ran forward, facing the twenty demons that were cut off from the larger demon group.
Right before the one closest to the demons, Tony, made contact with the demons, Leo threw the rocks in his hand. The rocks flew at incredible speeds and power toward the demons, forcing a few to either deflect or dodge the rocks.
Tony focused on one of the distracted demons, striking at the demon right before a rock was about to hit him.
The demon gnashed his teeth as he put his attention on Tony, blocking his sword. As he blocked Tony's sword, a rock hit the side of his abdomen, throwing him off balance.
Before Tony could finish off the demon, another demon slashed at him, forcing him to quickly parry the hit.
Immediately after, Tony used his leg to swipe the legs of both of the demons. The two demons fell to the ground, and Tony quickly decapitated both of them with a swing of the sword.
Before Tony had the chance to get in a defensive position, two other demons had already encircled him. They immediately launched themselves at Tony. Not wasting any time, Tony ducked down and swung his sword in a circular motion around him.
His sword cut down both of the demons in the air, but not before one of the demons managed to barely reach Tony's back, cutting through his shirt and making a small tear on his back.
"Tch!" Tony let out a small snarl as he gritted his teeth.
A second later, another volley of rocks came in. The rocks were aimed at the demons, specifically avoiding the few humans that were mixed in.
The rocks distracted a number of the demons again, allowing the humans to kill a few of them.
By this time, the rest of the demons have joined the battle. With a combination of blocking and dodging between the chaos, the humans stalled for enough time for another batch of rocks to storm in.
They used this chance to make their way back to Leo, by either jumping over all the demons or simply bulldozing through.
In the mayhem, Kevin dropped another two grenades in the middle of the demons. The demons quickly scurried away, but not all of them made it away safely.
~Boom~
~Rumble~
The grenades exploded, and the hallway shook with great vigor. This time the shaking didn't immediately let up. Instead, the whole building started shaking.
"We have to go! Now!" Kevin shouted while sheathing his sword in his scabbard.
The humans immediately stopped fighting and ran back to the entrance of the building, towards the exit of the cave. The demon also stopped fighting. Half of them ran after the humans, to the exit of the building, and the other half ran deeper inside.
~Crack~
~Bam~
Behind the humans, the loud sound of cracking and crashing echoed. The ceiling caved in behind them, destroying the white hallway. The destruction didn't end there, as more and more of the building got buried under dirt and stone.
The group didn't look back once after beginning their sprint. After a few seconds of running, they saw the large iron door appear in front of them. The demons behind them had fallen far behind, but the collapsing hallway was still following right behind them.
They barged through the large door, into the pitch-black cave. The crashing didn't stop at the iron door, and the dark cave also started to fall apart. The group ran through the lightless cave, all the way out of the mountain.
"Finally, we're out of the mountain..."
