"Come on, Baby. Want to play with it too?" Anna said in a gentle and encouraging tone.
Nigel experimentally rubbed the sole of his shoes to the ground. Then, he tried stomping on the sand. When he realized it wasn't scary and his shoes didn't sink anymore, he crouched down and tried touching the warm sand with his palm first.
He was wide-eyed at the sensation and glanced at her. Anna smiled encouragingly.
Nigel soon palmed the sand with both hands. When Anna scooped up some, her son imitated. She had to explain to Nigel though that he shouldn't touch his face when he was playing with sand because it could hurt his eyes.
"Retrieve the shovels and pails," she mouthed to her husband and he obediently did.
Knowing that the beach was their destination, she had prepared small pails and shovels for Nigel to build castles or whatever he wanted.
