Chapter 7 - At the Hospital

"It's been two weeks," Anna checked her calendar again. She had been observing herself closely for any signs of pregnancy but she didn't notice any yet.

"Don't tell me that guy was all looks and his swimmers were actually weak?" she complained. Her body had ached for three days due to sleeping with that guy for a night. Thus, it would be very much disappointing if he couldn't make her pregnant after all the times they did it.

"Geez. I went out that night because it was a fertile day too. My calendar clearly said there was a high chance of getting pregnant," she pouted as she rechecked her cycle calendar. Her period starts the next day. If it did, it meant that she had to go through all her efforts again or just go to a sperm bank.

But sperm banks were still strict. The sperm bank in their city only accepts married couples who have difficulty conceiving due to problems on the male side. And she's single.

Anna got excited when her period got delayed. But the next day, she started bleeding. She was even having light cramps.

"What a letdown. I thought I would be sharing the good news with Grandma soon. There's no news to share," she sighed.

"Does this mean I have to go to the club again and find another guy?" she lamented. She was too embarrassed to go to the same bar since she might encounter some people who had seen her the last Friday night she went there.

But when she went to the restroom, she realized something. She thought her period started because she saw blood on her underwear in the morning. But now, it stopped. There were just a few drops of blood on her pads.

She frowned and decided to observe her body first. She no longer wanted to get excited for nothing. The next day, it was the same.

"Is this what they call spotting?" she wondered and had to do further research. She was relieved when it was said that spotting was normal during the early stages of pregnancy and it usually happens during her supposed period. Her hopes were up once again.

Anna was very careful with what she ate and drank and even wore flat shoes to avoid any accidents. She wasn't sure yet, but it was better safe than sorry.

Six weeks passed since that fateful Friday night and she truly did not have her period. She also started having tender breasts.

'What's that smell? It's too strong,' she thought as she got a whiff of one of her colleague's perfume. She suddenly felt nauseous and had the urge to vomit. She quickly headed to the restroom and let out her breakfast.

That day, she told her colleague that his perfume was too much because it kept making her feel nauseous and sick that she had to leave the office.

"Wait, am I experiencing morning sickness right now?" Anna brightened when she recalled what she had been waiting for. She dropped by a convenience store on her way home and bought test kits.

"Oh my god! I'm pregnant. I'm really pregnant!" she squealed in glee when all three test kits she bought were positive. She wasn't able to contain her excitement and quickly informed her Grandma about it.

But her Grandma did not believe her even after she went and personally informed her at the hospital the next day.

"I told you. Stop pranking us," her grandmother told her.

"Anna, you don't have to go this far. Your Grandma will get better soon," her grandfather also did not believe her.

"I'm not pranking you. It's true. I had my pregnancy test taken yesterday at the clinic. I'll drop by tomorrow and show you," Anna insisted. It's true that she did it for her grandparents but also for herself.

"Are you faking a test result now?" her Grandma suspiciously eyed her.

"What?! No. I did not even think about that. Sheesh. Why won't you believe me?" Anna eyed her grandparents incredulously.

"Because you are single," her grandmother said.

"And you don't want to get married," her grandfather added.

"That's true. But I didn't say I don't want kids. I also wanted a cute little one," she pouted.

"Then get married already and make one," her grandmother said.

"Why do I have to get married when I already have one without needing a husband? There's already a baby here," she put her grandmother's hand on her belly.

"I don't feel anything."

"Geez. Wait for a few more weeks until my belly gets bigger," she grinned. Then she got a whiff of someone's perfume and had to run to the bathroom. She sighed as she once again emptied what she ate.

Her grandfather gave her warm water.

"Are you really pregnant?" he asked slowly.

"I told you that I am," she said and was about to say more but had to vomit again. "Uhh. Just whose perfume is that? Who uses such a strong perfume at a hospital?" she complained.

"Anna! Are you really pregnant?!" It was her grandmother this time.

"You finally believe me?" she harrumphed.

"This girl! How in the world? Where's the father?"

"That's a secret," she smirked.

"Don't tell me you really found some random man?" her grandmother asked and she held her head when Anna nodded.

"This child. Don't you know how dangerous that is? We went through all the trouble of looking for good marriage prospects for you. Did you at least sleep with one of those men?" her grandfather asked.

"No. I can't possibly sleep with them and run away when they are the precious grandsons of your friends. I found a stud with good genes," Anna replied and both her grandparents sighed in worry.

"Don't worry about the details. What's important is you'll soon have a great-grandchild soon," she assured them.

"What about the father? Shouldn't you inform him and get married if he wants to take responsibility?" her grandfather said.

"No need. This child is just mine. Who would want to take responsibility after just one night anyway? He doesn't have to know. He thought it was a safe day. Hehe," she smirked evilly and her grandfather lightly hit her head.

"You can't make a child alone," her grandmother sighed.

"Geez, if you're not happy, then I'll just keep my baby all to myself. I won't ever let you meet. My little angel shall be all mine," Anna said and her grandparents instantly changed their attitude and placated her.

"What are you talking about? You know I've always wanted great-grandchildren," her grandparents were suddenly all gentle and loving.

"She's not pretending to be pregnant, right?" she heard her grandmother wonder when they thought she had left.

"Geez, wait till I show you the test result," she muttered to herself before going home.

Unknowingly, someone had heard the entire conversation she had with her grandparents.
