Chereads / Wrath of the Storm God / Chapter 5 - Birb and Cave

Chapter 5 - Birb and Cave

~

"Haahhhhhh."

Ky woke up the next morning with a nice yawn and stretch.

The sun could be seen through the trees, high in the sky.

"It must be around noon, how did I not get attacked again throughout the night?" Ky mumbled to himself.

His whole body was sore from yesterday's activities, and his whole left arm felt like it had been crushed by a pig, run over by a car, and then punched by 50 football players as a birthday gift.

'Open Interface.'

Ky then added the stat point from the last wolf he received last night before passing out.

He put it into agility again. His agility was now at 6, just 2 points lower than what most of the wolves were at.

His plan was to upgrade himself to be just as fast if not faster than the wolves before he upgraded anything else.

"I'm dead meat if this shoulder doesn't heal itself fast." Ky mumbled.

He then stood up and did some stretches to get his blood flowing. He knew that he wouldn't get so lucky to be able to sleep through the night again.

Ky started aimlessly walking just like he had the previous day, but today he wasn't sneaking around.

He had a weapon now, and the dumb wolves announced their arrival every time they showed up, so he didn't feel the need to hide anymore.

Ky walked in whatever direction felt right.

He didn't know what he was looking for, if anything at all.

The common rules of dungeons in video games are to either clear all the monsters in the dungeon including the boss monster, or to reach some checkpoint that would let you out.

Ky didn't know which method this dungeon used, or if it used a completely different one, so all he could do was walk aimlessly.

~

After a few hours, the forest started increasing in elevation.

It was no longer flat ground, but seemed to have merged with a mountain.

Ky hadn't seen any wolves in this hour, making his walk even more boring than it needed to be.

'Why am I getting excited at potentially finding more enemies???'

Ky realized his confidence was growing, but his overconfidence could kill him if he wasn't careful.

"SCREEEEEEEECH!"

"Hey, would you look at that, a new enemy!" Ky mumbled in an excited voice.

He turned to his right and saw a very large hawk flying through the trees in his direction.

The trees had spaced out much more on the hill he was on than earlier.

They were now at the smallest 10 meters away from each other.

This gave Ky good visibility and space to fight against the incoming threat.

Once the bird got close enough, Ky swung his doru in a horizontal slash, but it was badly timed so it missed.

He swung way too early.

"Oh shit!"

Ky ducked as low as possible with the little time he had left.

"SQWACK"

*Boom*

A small explosion-like sound rang out.

*Ding*

—-------

You have killed a Baby Giant Hawk

+3 Stat points

—-------

'Hmm?'

Ky took his hands from over his head and stood up.

Looking behind him he saw the tragic death of the hawk.

It must not have expected Ky to duck down. It flew right into a tree, causing the bird's face to cave in on itself.

"Haha, poor birb." Ky mumbled.

He was starting to not care about the death of these animals.

His first kills were easy because he was more worried about his parents death, but they made the next kills much easier even when he came back to his senses.

"What's this?"

An ancient looking scroll appeared next to the bird.

Ky picked it up and turned it over to read its contents.

"..."

It was in a language Ky had never seen in his life.

The letters looked like they could be some type of runic viking style language, but also different.

'Inspect.'

Object: Mana Assimilation/Infusion Technique Scroll

Rank: Unranked

Rarity: Common

Instructions:

First learn to sense the mana in your surroundings. You will feel something else in the air. It will feel like a thick smoke and smell funny. Humans cannot sense mana innately like some monsters so you have to make an effort and focus on the smell and feel.

After you can sense the mana, try to pull it to the center of your chest where a core will be located.

Humans were born with a core, but it is inactive for 99% of the population. Pulling enough mana into your core will activate it.

After your core is active you can begin your Mana Assimilation/Infusion journey.

All human cores start off with a black color at rank 0. Mana Assimilation increases the quality of your core, changing its color as well. Once your core is a certain color you will rank up, but beware, you need certain stats to be able to rank up safely without harming your body.

To start mana assimilation: Bring mana into your core until it is overflowing. Try to contain the overflowing mana within your core as best as you can. The mana that stays within your core long enough will become part of your own mana reserve and help to purify your core. So, the larger your mana pool, the more purified your core will be.

Ky took a few minutes to read the information from the scroll and then read it a few more times to memorize the information before rolling it up and putting it in his pocket.

'I mean it was kind of easy to guess mana would be a thing with how I am currently in a dungeon, with a system, fighting oversized wolves…' He thought.

'Still it is pretty cool to know humans will be able to use magic.'

Ky kept making his way up the hill. This time he wanted to find a safe place to try activating his core.

~

It was getting darker, and Ky was about to give up on finding anywhere to stay when he came across a cave.

"Perfect." He mumbled.

His experiences so far warned him not to walk directly into the cave without some surveillance first.

Information is key to survival right now.

Ky crept towards the left side of the cave opening.

With his back against the outside wall, Ky leaned into the cave to take a look.

It was a relatively shallow cave. It looked like it only went back 10 or so meters from what he could see.

'Nothing in there. I might as well go in.'

Still crouched down just in case, Ky started walking slowly into the cave.

After 10 meters his blue eyes no longer allowed him to see what was in front of him, but he realized it was indeed deeper than the 10 meters he originally thought.

Ky kept going even though he could not see. His hand was on the left side wall as he went deeper into the cave.

After another few minutes of walking, crystals in the cave allowed Ky to see again.

'I knew it. This is a dungeon, so every ominous cave has to have some type of lighting.'

What he saw in front of him now that he could see excited him to no end.

A small lake!

"Yes!!!"

Ky immediately ran forward and almost threw himself into the lake sliding across the ground to reach it.

He now had access to food and water, the 2 basic necessities for humans to survive.

*Gulp* *Gulp*

Ky drank fervently from the lake. He did not even care if the lake water had diseases in it. He would deal with it later, for now he was thirsty!

Ky only stopped his large gulps of water when he ran out of breath.

"Hahhhhh." He let out a long sigh of relief.

"Nice and cold. Such good water." He had a large smile on his face.

He didn't know if it was because he was so thirsty or if the lake water was actually that good, but it tasted heavenly.

"Welp, time to take a bath!"

Ky started stripping off his clothes and threw his doru and fur to the side with his clothes.

He didn't care how cold the water was. He needed to not only clean his wounds but get all the caked up blood off of himself.

"Cannonball!"

A few seconds after jumping in, Ky resurfaced.

"Ahhhhhh! Cold!"

The lake seemed to be at least 3 meters deep where he jumped in, but it had an incline that allowed him to walk out.

He walked up the incline a bit so he could properly stand up before washing his body.

He gave special care to the scratches on his chest and left shoulder.

The one on his chest had already closed up completely, but the one on his shoulder was still open.

'That's gonna leave a nice scar when it's healed.' He thought.

~

After cleaning himself off, Ky looked over to the wall on the right side of the room the lake was in.

He had noticed an opening while bathing that was in the wall just before it reached the lake.

Ky walked over to the opening while redressing to peer inside.

'Stairs…'

'Nope, not today Satan…'

Ky knew that ominous stairs in a dungeon would only lead to trouble that he didn't need right now.

He ignored the stairs and went to the opposite wall to sit down.

He closed his eyes and crossed his legs and started trying to sense the mana in the air like the scroll told him to.
