Chapter 36 - Codex

Arriving in the archives of Essentia Academy I could not help but gain a small sense of respect for the academy in its quest for knowledge. The archives had shelves upon shelves full of scrolls and books that were full of the knowledge of circles, the shelves were tall to the point that they reached the ceiling.

The archives had nine floors, each of them had shelves tall to the point that they reached the ceiling so the academy had to make separate floors. They were hundreds of thousands if not millions of codexes in a single one, thankfully there was a way to filter them so you could find the ones you want, or else finding just one would be a mission.

Out of the nine floors of the archives, the first to the third floor was for the first years while the fourth floor, which was where we were now was reserved for second years but due to us being in Class X we have special privileges. I had no clue about the rest but from what Ms.Su told me, the strongest and most profound codexes were located on the seventh floor.

To be honest, I didn't really need any of the codexes here, when I awakened my emblem my soul sent a flood of information to my mind as I now held the abyssal codex of circles that contained spells of all tiers, there was even divine tier spell inside, a shame that I can't use most of them. The rest of the members of Class X took long glances as they toured around the third floor of the archives.

"Circles below divine tier are ranked from tier one to tier nine. Since all of you are at the Mortal Transformation stage of cultivation the most you will need is tier three circles. For those with emblems, you can pick pretty much any codex you want since you all can use any circle, For those without emblems I heavily recommend that you select a codex that matches up to your element." Ms.Su instructed as everyone nodded and split off in search of their own codex.

I walked up to Ms.Su and stood next to her and waited until everyone was out of sight to the point where it was only just me and her in the current vicinity. Ms.Su gave me a look that was pretty much telling me to stay here while the rest go codex shopping, I have no idea what reason she had but if my guess was correct then it would make my current objective here a lot easier.

"Please tell me that you are going to take me to the seventh floor as compensation?" I asked while portraying a pleading tone.

Ms.Su rolled her eyes and said "What makes you think that I would even take you to the seventh floor?"

"Well, that is the only viable compensation for giving a potion that would only be a waste if used in me. Especially since I can't have your cunt or mouth."

"What about my hand?" She said with a small blush.

"What is the point? If you're going to use your hand, you might as well top me." I answered with a nonchalant smile.

She lightly hit my chest and pouted in anger which I actually found kind of cute and while I look like I tanked it, that light hit actually hurt like fuck. If it wasn't for me being an abyssal demon my bones would be ground dust right now. Damn, I need to start body cultivation soon, this is getting embarrassing.

"Just shut up and follow me." Ms.Su said as she walked towards one of the isles of the archives and I followed.

After a few twists and turns, we ended up in a secluded section of the third floor that I was sure that even I would miss even if I paid good attention to my surroundings. Ms.Su then walked up to the shelf and pulled down a book like a lever and the entire shelf slid to the side like a door. I knew there were secret passages and hidden rooms in the academy so this didn't surprise me one bit, but what threw me off was how small this room was as there was nothing in there. The place looked like a small storage room where there was nothing but a teleportation formation sitting in the middle of it.

"Follow me." Ms.Su said as she stepped onto the formation that was slowly lighting up.

I followed her silently as I stepped onto the teleportation formation while also being able to stand next to her easily despite the small size of the room. I didn't make any jokes or snide remarks because I was actually curious about where she wanted to take me, it was as if she planned to take me here the whole time. I wasn't complaining in any way don't get me wrong but it did make me wonder what would happen if I never asked for compensation.

We were now teleported onto another floor of the archives but this one gave me a different vibe. The fourth floor gave me the vibe that while these books and scriptures are powerful, they were still at the novice level. While the ones on this floor gave me the feeling that these were akin to emperor-ranked codexes, there was simply no comparison as every single book on this flow had its own discrete glow and aura. One didn't even need to filter the books out to find what they want, they could just sense it.

"Welcome to the seventh floor of the archives." Ms.Su revealed with a prideful smile as she gave me the news that honestly made me feel surprised.

"Really?" I asked as I kept moving forward, taking a good hour as I looked at the codexes of the seventh floor and I had to say that these were clearly a cut above the rest and it wasn't even close. The ones on the fourth floor didn't even qualify to be trash.

"Hold on. I got a question. Why bring me up on the seventh floor? What's the deal?" I asked.

To be honest me asking her to take me to the seventh floor was a joke. I never even expected her to have access, let alone actually take me up here. There has to be something she is after, there is no other way.

"Oh? What do you mean by that?" She asked with a teasing smile on her face.

"To be honest when I asked you to take me to the seventh floor, it was a joke as I didn't even expect you to have access but you did and actually took me here when everyone else in my position would get scolded, ignored or their ass beat so what gives?"

Ms.Su smiled and said "As I said in the classroom, you'll find out the answer whether you want to or not. Go to the middle of the floor, the top 5 codexes reside there, once you pick one come back here so I can take you back to the fourth floor. We can't be gone for too long unless you want rumors to spread."

I immediately bolted to the center of the floor not daring to waste any time. As I finally made it to the center the were 5 books floating around with their auras being gold, red, astral blue, silver and black. They were giving me a profound feeling, it was a shame that I could only take one of these and I was running low on time, but I still wouldn't rush my choice.

I looked at the auras and when I got the information on what the five of these codexes really were, I almost felt like passing out since I had a feeling I was racking up a serious debt.
