Chapter 7 - Dark Side

When Rosella read until here, she felt something out of place.

"Why did his teacher's books only mention the Spirits in the Dark Magic's books?"

"…"

Rosella asks no one in particular, because deep inside, she already had an answer.

~Sigh~

With a deep sigh, she continues with the dairy, but this time she finds the owner a bit excited and worried.

"Day 60, year XXXX.

Today, Teacher taught me about my resonance with magic.

He used a translucent crystal. He told me that the crystal it is called Magic Crystal, it can tell what is my strongest and my lower resonance with magic.

And guess what!?

I can't believe it. According to my Teacher, I've resonated with several kinds of magic.

From the lowest to the highest, red, blue, brown, green, white, and dark.

I'm worried. I've been learning more about Dark Magic than any other magic.

Sometimes I heard my Teacher mutter something weird in his south wing at night, the only place he forbid me to enter without permission. I can get inside the rest of the place of my free will.

Sometimes it's a voice muttering something, others are chopping, and other sounds I can't discern. But it creeps me out. When I tried to get closer, my teacher discovers me, and he always shows up in front of me with his characteristic warm smile.

And then send me away. But even if his smile is the same warm and charming, it gave me chills.

So, even though I feel curious, I never did it again. But something feels off.

My Teacher told me that Dark Magic was my most prominent aptitude for magic, and if I train in this path, my magic can increase tenfold."

Reaching here, Rosella knew what was wrong.

If the owner of the diary read and learn about Spirits leading him towards the left path, the Dark Magic, he could only increase his resonance with Dark Magic.

"But why?" asks Rosella.

'Even the person who has a high resonance with White Magic can succumb to the Dark Magic. Reading and having a deep understanding about it, it's enough for reaching a certain level in Dark Magic.' The male childish voice enlightens Rosella.

"So, even if he had a certain knowledge about white magic and the other types of magic, the deepest understanding of Dark Magic can make a person submit to the dark side."

Reading all the daily journals of the black book's owner, she understands that Dark Magic belongs to the Dark side of the supernatural world.

It can control dead bodies, venomous plans, curses, devil spirits summoning, and rituals for gaining power.

Reaching a high level of knowledge and understanding can make a person go crazy.

Rosella felt some creeps reading all that, but there is something that makes her worried…

"If I continue reading, will I…?"

'No, your knowledge about Light Spirits is heavier than this, and the Sacred Spirit's Blessings use Light Magic, the adversary of Dark Magic. Making you immune to Dark Magic and its deep understanding can't affect your mind.'

'Dark Spirits or Devil Spirits in history are called Fallen Spirits, the ones who once were White Spirits, but they succumbed to one or more negative emotion. They can corrupt many other White Spirits, but never a Sacred Spirit.'

Both the male and female childish voices explain to Rosella, giving her relief.

"Yes, I understand. Thank you." Nodding, Rosella keeps in mind the Sacred Spirit's Blessing.

She continues reading the diary.

"Day 364, Year XXXX.

Tomorrow is the day I reach one year of knowledge about magic, mostly Dark Magic…

I…

… I don't know how to describe my current emotions.

Discovering something I should not have…

My teacher, he…

Learning about Dark Magic, I found a book with some spells, and one of them is [ Stealth ] The spell allows me to blend in the darkness with one noticing my presence.

One day I reached the highest level of the spell, I did not tell my Teacher about it; it scared me he will punish me. It would not be the first time, and every punishment is painful.

But my curiosity won my reasoning.

I used the spell and reached the South Wing of the Castle.

Reaching the deepest part, I found my Teacher's Magic Room. A place where he stays most of the time to practice magic.

And…

It shocked me what I saw…

It was a couple of minutes, and I gasped after I understood what was he doing. Fearing what would happen to me if he found me peaking at his Magic Room, I run away from that place.

When I reached my room, I could not come back to my senses. So, I embarked to write, if he discovers me, I think this will be my last time writing. Before that, I could leave this book to someone who can get any help from my studies.

I don't know what will happen tomorrow. Will he let me practice magic or…

Thinking about what happened in the Magic Room scares me…

My Teacher… he…

He was in the middle of a magic circle; I have seen draw many magic circles. But none like the one I saw.

A bloody red magic circle on the entire floor, a black book releasing a red light floating in front of my Teacher. While he was in the middle of the circle and something was crawling on the ground inside the circle.

His warm and charming smile was nowhere to be seen. And it replaced by a disturbing smile, his muddled red eyes, his lips red with something I presume was blood, running through his lips and jawline.

His black hair was now white, and blood covered his white attire.

I saw his hands… There was something disgusting. I did not know what it was, but every time he could get it closer to his mouth and bite it. I had some guesses in my heart, but at that time I did not dare to think about them or said it out loud.

And his spine-chilling and hoarse voice, "These villagers are not tasty. I thought they would become a great sacrifice. I hope my chimera can eat the rest…"

The guesses in my heart were true… He was eating a human body.

My heart was broken, I wanted to learn White Magic. Instead, I found myself with a Dark Magic Teacher.

My future is bleak.

Please, pray for something or someone in the White Magic for my soul.

Sincerely, Hannah Goldsmith."

Rosella did not know what happened to the diary's owner, Hannah. Her name is familiar to her. But she did not remember from where did she hear it.

And seeing that after her signed name, there are a couple of more pages after. She has some complicated feeling. She wants to end the reading. But Rosella had a feeling, the most important thing, the answers to her questions, is after the owner signed her name.
