Even though all this just happened, another incident awaited me in the form of the disappearance of Rian.
It feels like the world is bent on taking away the people I care about. No matter how hard I try, maybe it's just my luck that everything that I ever got is destined to doom.
And I hate it, not only my luck, but also the fact that for just a small instance, my heart felt happy that the son of the person who killed my family is missing. I hate this part of myself. Rian is my brother and I should protect him.
It would be foolish to shout during all this, maybe I should just look around, if it's a kidnapping, they shouldn't have gotten far.
Maybe because I was worried or maybe because I was in deep thought, I didn't notice the presence behind me. As soon as I felt that someone was behind me, I prepared my aim and quickly turned around.
"Rian, thank god… where the hell were you?"
Oh god! I'm feeling so relieved that it's Rian and finally I can take a breath.
"Brother, I heard someone coming so I quickly hid behind the door."
"Oh! Good, hide from now on whenever I go outside and don't come until I call you."
"Okay brother, but mother…"
"Listen Rian, I'm sad too but she asked us to be strong and survive, remember?"
"Rian, even if God is against us, if we stay together, I will always protect you."
Rian is much more mature for his age, he knows what death is, and even now he's trying hard to stop himself from crying. He's trying hard to hide it from me. I feel like an idiot who actually cried while Rian was asleep.
"Brother, mom..dad…what should we do with them."
"Its not something you should worry about. I will do something about it. For now let's eat some food, because we haven't eaten anything from yesterday night."
And the second day went by without any incidents. I asked Rian to sleep while I'm keeping the watch but that's not the only reason.
I'm going to use this time, trying to deal with the bodies. Digging a grave would be foolish in this kind of situation, the other option would be to leave the body and let it decay, and I don't want to do something like this.
So I decided the best option would be to shift to another house and put the house to the fire with the help of petrol. I woke up Rian, and then we packed the necessary food items and some clothes. As for the gun, I'm the one who keeps it.
I decided to go to uncle Josh's house which isn't very far away from here. And luckily I found the keys in his pocket.
He lived alone, he had no family left, maybe that's why he came here in hope to find us and protect us but instead got killed by that man.
I poured petrol which I found in the basement all over the house and bodies. We took a few minutes to say our final goodbyes to the ones we loved.
Rian seems like he's barely holding onto his tears, I should make it quick.
I wanted to throw dad's body out of the house but I just couldn't do it.. respect the dead that's what came to my mind.
I burned the whole house down myself, I don't want Rian to be the one, he's not the one who is responsible for this. I am the one, mother died protecting me, father died while he was trying to kill. I'm the one who is responsible for their deaths.
And now I am the one who is responsible for Rian, and this time I won't fail.
"Rian, let's go.."
I held his hand and guided him because he didn't know Uncle Josh's house. And luckily we didn't run into any trouble.
I opened the door, and asked Rian to find the way to the basement. I plan on spending the next few days until the next time God announces something again in this house.
"Here brother, I found it."
"Good job Rian, you go there I will try to find something in the fridge and then come."
I hoped to get something from the fridge, something fresh to eat but as I opened the door, what I saw was nothing but disappointment. There's nothing in the fridge but beer bottles. This ain't the stuff i should give to Rian, no it's not something i should drink myself.
Luckily we got food that would last us till tomorrow afternoon but what after that. I guess the only option I have is to go outside and search for it.
The next three days went the same but in the meantime I actually strengthened my bond with Rian and practiced aiming as well but I didn't have much bullets to waste. I searched for the food, while Rian hid in the basement. I did find a person one time but as soon as I approached him, he attacked me. The only option I had was to shoot him which I did. I'm a killer now, and maybe I will kill more people in the future in order to protect myself and Rian.
The food I got yesterday wasn't enough so I need to get something.
I already searched all over the neighborhood but there wasn't much I could get. I think the best option I have right now is to go to the mart. There I can get canned food. This is the plan for now.
I asked Rian to hide and left for this risky job. Even though it's risky, it's the only option I have right now.
This is the first time I decided to go get something in the broad daylight. Maybe this is why I finally noticed how empty the roads look without people around. There weren't any sounds of honking, there wasn't anyone yelling. Its all just silent. It's giving a calm yet creepy vibes.
The inside of the mart feels the same, i could even compare it to the marts we see in the zombie movies but this one is more creepy even without any zombies.
I tried getting as much canned food as i could in the bag and then left for home, trying to be as silent as possible but the sounds made by cans classic together isn't helping at all.
Suddenly I heard someone crying. It sounded as if a little girl was crying so I put the bag with cans on the ground and silently ambled my way there.
I followed the voice and saw a man, who then slapped the girl which made her fall on the ground. I don't know if i should do something about it. But looking at the girl the same age as Rian getting assaulted, made me a little furious. And out of anger I aimed at him and shot a bullet. It was a head shot and he immediately died. Maybe I'm just lucky with guns.
I slowly approached the girl and asked if she's okay from a distance. I think if i go closer to her she might get afraid of me. But she suddenly ran towards me while crying and hugged my legs. Maybe she was too afraid of him and as soon as she saw a ray of hope, she grabbed it.
"Little lady, wanna come with me?"
Maybe it's just me but she reminds me so much of Rian, and I can't just leave her here now.
Nods...
She nodded and then said.
"Big brother, thank you for saving me."
"Don't worry let me take you to my home and then we can talk, i want to ask some questions from you.."
"Okay, big brother."
She stayed silent and held onto my hand till we reached the house.
Rian seemed confused seeing the newcomer, so I took the responsibility of introducing her to him.
"Little lady, this person here is my Little brother Rian"
"And Rian, this little lady is… wait what is your name, little lady." I asked in a sarcastic tone, trying to ease up the environment.
"Lily, I'm Lily." She told her name while looking downward, maybe she is shy.
"I saved her from someone who was about to hit her. And thus she is here now."
"Nice to meet you Lily", Rian said this with a smile, and that got lily to finally look up towards him. Her face brightened and she replied,
"Same.."
But then they both decided to be silent, and it became awkward so I tried breaking the silence.
"You two must be hungry, wanna see what I brought this time with me?"
I'm sure that i will meet more people like her in the future but it doesn't mean that i should help them too, this was just a one time thing, I'm not here going to run an orphanage. I have to survive.
