Chapter 46 - 46- Sense And Senseless

When he regained his senses he questioned himself why he regained his senses. People were surrounding him. Elizabeth was still sprinkling water on his face, even if he was all sense. He could hardly muster the energy to say that he needed not to be sprinkled any more water. But this was nothing. Before him was standing a towering man in khaki, surrounded by some shorter ones. Police. He almost fainted again.

Elizabeth said, "Don't worry, you have done a heroic job. People are praising you."

Oh that is a relief: thought the gatekeeper. He slowly sat down. Some people helped him sit down. He leaned on the wall at his back. The tall police man came near him and sat on the ground just before him. The police man seemed a very grave officer. He said, "Nice. You did a commendable job. You deserve an Order of Merit – a national prestigious award."

"Thanks," said the gatekeeper, half conscious and half unconscious.

The police man said, "Say, you have not planned it. Say, you have not appointed some fake assassin to come and target someone in random, so that you will have a heroic image."

"You have a nice sense of humour sir," said a constable standing near the tall policeman. The tall inspector smiled. It was the ugliest, nastiest smile the gatekeeper had ever encountered. You, inspector is better without a smile: thought the gatekeeper.

The tall inspector asked, "Ok, what is your name?"

"Harry," said the gatekeeper.

The inspector ordered a constable, "Hey, write down this chaps name and address and write it well. No spelling mistake, ok."

The constable said, "Yes sir."

When asked he gatekeeper described what he had witnessed and how he responded to the incident in full detail. He was already feeling like a hero.
