The Professor instructed his guards to bring the machine inside. They looked hesitant at first, but could not refuse when the old man repeated his command in a much firmer tone. Cairo decided to accompany them outside to ease their fear.
"He's not gonna attack you. The android's unconscious now."
As they left, the Professor called up Kurt and asked him to meet them on the upper floor.
Since it was well past bedtime, they did not have to worry about explaining things to the other civilians. All the other survivors, including the scouts and the Scrappers, had gone off to sleep. The hallway was deserted now, save for the security cameras which kept beeping intermittently as they turned from side to side.
Kurt met up with the Professor and Mira, outside the X-ray chamber on the first floor. He hadn't come empty-handed but was carrying a semi-automatic laser rifle.
"I brought my weapon as you asked. What's going on, Professor?" he asked.
