Kevin and Suzy carefully made their way out of the blind alley and stepped onto the main street. A paved asphalt road riddled with potholes stretched out before them.
The moonless sky was draped in a blanket of darkness. Not even a lonesome star peeped through the cloud cover. Kevin and Suzy felt like outsiders on the surface. The ravished urban landscape didn't feel like home. All that remained of the once flourishing district was a lifeless concrete skeleton.
Suzy couldn't bear the suffocating silence any longer. "It's all gone now. They destroyed everything. To think that people actually used to come here to enjoy the weekends...I hope the housing zone is in better shape," she mumbled.
