Cassandra watched on as Kevin twisted the clutch and sped past the hummers guarding the shelter entrance. He had come a long way since she'd first met him inside his room. He was no longer that scared little boy, fumbling in the dark for answers. Instead she was the one struggling with her truth.
While the others gripped their rifles with their warm, gloved fingers and took positions behind the hummers, Cassandra folded her hands in prayer. Though she was the R&D supervisor of the research facility, she had an entirely different set of convictions than the rest. Her eyes still dreamed and her soul found comfort in an abstract concept of a higher power.
