"Here, sit down." Damien rounded the prep table and pulled out one of the low-backed high stool for Beatrix.
He pushed it in after she sat down and went back to the egg batter he was making.
Beatrix watched him silently as he dipped some sliced bread into the batter and laid them flat on the griddle behind him where the bacon was already cooking.
There was something sexy about watching a man cook for you while he was half naked. Beatrix held her flushed cheeks as she stared at him in awe.
He poured them each a cup of coffee and asked her how much cream and sugar she wanted with hers.
"What do you have planned today?" he asked, before getting back up again to flip the french toast.
"N-nothing."
Beatrix replied as she took an experimental sip of her coffee.
He glanced at her, his brows furrowed together before he sighed and sat back down again.
"Don't you want to do anything? I know you didn't have enough freedom at home but here with me, you can do whatever you want."
Beatrix widened her eyes in surprise. She didn't really expect that. She thought he was going to keep her chained in his basement for life or something.
"Really?"
She questioned as she did her damned best to keep a steady hand on her cup of coffee but she lowered it anyway before she could pour it all over her. She was that clumsy.
"I'm not a monster, Beatrix. Don't look at me as if I am."
Beatrix flushed and didn't dare look up into his eyes but she managed a stiff nod.
"Oh. That's I- rumors. Also after how this marriage was arranged I-assumed-."
"I know that I'm not a good man. This business if you want to survive and protect your loved ones you have to make certain hard decisions. But that doesn't mean I'm going to treat the future mother of my kids like a prisoner.
You're free to do whatever you want, pertaining that it doesn't put you at risk," he said in almost a grumble.
Beatrix's heart thumped in her chest when she heard him. Did he just say, future mother of his kids?! God….Heat immediately climbed up her neck, setting her entire face on fire.
"Eat." He said when he realized that she hadn't touched her food.
"You are way too skinny." He added then proceeded to fill her a plate of french toast, bacon and some of the scrambled egg before serving himself.
Beatrix took a bite of the french toast which she had topped with some icing sugar and maple syrup and moaned a little in satisfaction.
"I had no idea you could cook."
"I know enough to manage on my own," he said, watching her over the rim of his coffee cup.
"This is hardly a feast, you know?"
Beatrix grinned and popped a piece of bacon into her mouth.
"It was prepared for me by my fiancé. That alone makes it a feast so thank you."
Beatrix watched a smile broke into his face and she inhaled deeply. The man was gorgeous and he was going to be the end of her.
"So tell me about yourself." Damien asked, popping a bacon in his mouth.
"Erm…." Beatrix started off awkwardly, how do you answer these questions? There was nothing interesting about her enough for her to share with him.
"W-what do you want to know?"
His lips curled up into a mischievous grin, "Anything you want to share with me. Even your darkest and deepest secrets." He winked at her.
"If I tell you my darkest and deepest secrets it won't be a secret anymore."
Damien chuckled and nodded, "Yeah you're right."
