"I-I'm interesting?" Beatrix gulped, pointing to herself.
Rhys bit his lower lips and nodded.
Beatrix furrowed her brows in confusion. She had zero idea on how to interact with the opposite sex. Having three overprotective brothers, every guy she met in school avoided her like a plague.
And the ones who were bold enough to talk to her, she ran away when they approached her.
So what does it mean when a guy finds you interesting? Did he think she was funny or something?
He moved suddenly closer to her, causing her to stiffened.
"A little birdy told me you were staring at me" he said raising his brows, as he leaned forward gazing into her eyes.
"Did you like what you were staring at?" He questioned as he lazily traced his hands on the words on her shirt.
Beatrix swallowed and anxiety coursed through her at their close proximity. The air around them became tense for some reason.
"I-I wasn't staring" Beatrix lied. She was so bad at it that she didn't even know why she bothered lying.
"You, Uh happened to be in my line of sight. I had no choice but to see you. It's not my fault you were sitting at the place that I wanted to look at. You don't owe the space right? So no, I wasn't looking at you." She said in one breath and took a deep breath after she was done.
A deep chuckle rumbled out of his chest and he shook his head helplessly.
"That's the most I've heard you talk." He looked at her sinking his teeth into his lower lip, amusement glinting through his eyes.
Beatrix flushed and tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Hmm….so are you from here?" Beatrix asked, trying to change the subject.
"Yes." He replied curtly.
"Oh…" Beatrix trailed off. She licked her lips as she tried to find another question to ask.
"H-how old are you?" She questioned again.
Rhys raised his eyebrows at her before he answered, "Twenty-seven."
Beatrix eyes widened in shock. Okay she knew twenty-seven wasn't old but she thought he was much younger than that.
"So you're working?" She followed up with this question.
"Yes." Rhys replied briefly.
"What do you do?"
Rhys shrugged and replied calmly, "Kill people."
Beatrix blinked and stared at him for a second before her brain processed his words.
"What?!" She bellowed. So she was hanging out with a serial killer? Oh my…was he sent to kill her? She knew her father had many enemies who wanted her family dead. Could he be one of them?
Beatrix stood up abruptly and stepped back. Her eyes widened in fear. There was a beat of silence before she talked.
"Y-you're ki-dd-ing right?" Her voice shook slightly as she asked.
Rhys got up and his lips curved into a menacing smile. He ran his tongue across the inside of his lower lip and he took a taunting step forward. Prowling like a lion about to play with its prey.
Nerves fluttered in Beatrix's belly and a cold worm of fear gnawed at her spine. What the hell has she gotten herself into?
She licked her lips nervously as she darted her eyes around to see if anyone was around or if someone would save her. She knew her father had bodyguards protecting her in the shadows and now she wished they would appear or something.
Icy tendrils robbed her of action, freezing her in place.
Rhys moved closer to her and he leaned his head down to her eye level "Are you scared, love?"
Beatrix shook her head meekly, trying to keep her hands pressed palm down against her thighs to hide that they were shaking.
"Do you know what I've been thinking since I saw
you love?" he dragged out, his voice deep and cold.
He moved his face closer, and Beatrix was able to smell the whiskey on his breath.
"How you're going to cut me into pieces to get rid of evidence?"
Beatrix blurted out with her voice tight.
Rhys stared at her for a moment before he laughed, pressing his body closer to hers.
"Actually I was thinking about these" he replied and trailed his index finger along her lower lip. Beatrix blinked in confusion as she tried not to think about how hot her serial killer looked right now.
"How they taste" he raised his gaze from her lips and met her eyes.
Beatrix's eyebrows shoot up in shock, her mouth going dry and electricity jolts straight through her. This man was going to give her a stroke. Wasn't he planning on killing her a few minutes ago? Why does he want to kiss her now? Was he a grim reaper who took people's souls with a kiss?
Rhys' hands cupped her jaw and he pulled her
face forward so their noses were touching.
Beatrix kept her eyes focused on his pretty hazel ones and the only sounds were their heavy breaths mixing together.
The air around them shifted and his eyes
flicked back and forth between hers while her brows crease. All of this was so confusing. What the hell was going on?
"What are you-" He cut her off again by pressing his index finger to her full soft lips, still cupping her jaw with his other hand.
Rhys press his forehead against hers, nudging her nose with hers lightly and he licked his lips
"I need to find out, I can't stop thinking about it" He stated anxiously, still searching her eyes with his, still keeping his finger pressed against her lips.
Beatrix was frozen, completely caught off guard and confused about the sudden shift in the air, and his abrupt behaviour.
"Mind if I find out?" he whispered.
Beatrix blinked. It seemed her body had a mind of its own, because she found herself nodding.
She knew her response defied common sense and
rationality, but with him this close to her and with his finger on her lips, she wanted him.
What the hell was wrong with her?
He was a complete stranger! For all she knew, he
could be a serial killer. She had already determined he was dangerous but she couldn't think, she could only feel.
And then she had given the answer he wanted so effortlessly. Beatrix nodded.
Yes. Yes, indeed, She was going to let a perfect-stranger-possible-serial-killer kiss her.
He saw her nodded and he tutted in disapproval. With his lips hovering above hers,he rasped, "Words love, you need to use them. We need to work on that behavior of yours."
Beatrix gasped, her chest beginning to heave as her breathing became shallow and uneven.
Rhys nuzzled into her neck and growled seductively, "You're going to have to answer quickly love, if you want me to maintain the little shred of control I have ."
Heat burst from her core, tingling along her skin. The feeling was so weird but so good.
Beatrix felt electricity shot through her as he bit her earlobe.
"Yes or No Bebe. I need you to answer me."
Beatrix swallowed the lump in her throat and met his lustful eyes. She knew her decision was reckless but for once she didn't care.
The temptation was so great. She breathed,
"Yes."
