Chapter 29 - Mysteries

When they arrived at the place they would be staying Damien climbed out of the vehicle before the driver had the opportunity to open the door for him.

Beatrix was dumbstruck at the house in front of her. When her dad had told her she was going to be moving in with Damien she thought she was going to live in a big mansion surrounded by heavy security just like their place and she loathed the idea but this…..this house was nothing like the one she had imagined.

She gazed at the house in awe. It's like something out of her imagination.

It was a Mediterranean inspired pastoral estate, permanently basked in a pastel-yellow glow, surrounded by manicured gardens and accented by a second floor bridge and porch over the front entrance.

Beatrix snapped out of her reverie as Damien stood there, holding the car door open for her. He instructed the driver to take their bags instead.

Beatrix smiled up at him and thanked him as she got out of the car.

"So….we would be living here?" She asked not to be able to wipe the smile off her face.

Damien slipped his hands into his pockets and turned his head to look at her.

"Hmmm what do you think?"

Beatrix beamed at him, "it's perfect not exactly what I was expecting but…"

"But?" Damien interrupted her, clearly he was never out about her opinion about the house.

"But it's everything I have ever wanted in a house. I thought we would be staying at a huge mansion with many security men."

Damien shook his head, "I want us to get to know each other and having eyes everywhere will not be nice. I can't make you scream my name loud enough if there are people everywhere."

Damien said with a sly look on his face.

"Oh…but why would I be screaming your name? Unless I have had an accident and I'm calling you to come help me I don't-"

Damien bursted into a laugh interrupting her.

"Ah you're truly innocent aren't you?" He said, amusement lacing his voice.

Beatrix said with her brows furrowed in confusion.

"Come on, let's go inside."

Beatrix followed him quietly, still not understanding what he meant by her screaming his name. Weird why would he say something like that?

"What do you think?" He asked her once they entered the house.

A smile made its way onto her face as she took in the interior of the house.

It was the perfect mesmerizing mid-century living room with a starburst wall décor, laden bookshelves of old, a lime couch creating an appealing contrast with the black-painted floorboards.

There was a central fireplace and rug to show the evolution of the style. A Noguchi-style coffee table was at the center and faux sheepskin pillows in the couch further twisting the classics.

"Well…I didn't think the leader of the most fearful mafia gang liked bright colors. I'm impressed." Beatrix said with a thread of laughter in her voice.

"Oh…you would be surprised about a lot of things about me." A small smile played on the edge of his lips.

"Hmm….then-I'm looking forward to unraveling all your mysteries." Beatrix replied back coyly.

"Me too. I wonder what's underneath all that pretty face of yours." Reaching out suddenly, he tucked a stray of her hair behind her ear.

His words sent a chill of delight through her veins, causing a shy smile to claim her lips as color climbed up the back of her neck and set her entire face on fire.

He thought she was pretty? That was…unexpected.
