Chapter 6 - Rivals

The following weeks passed by like a blur. Each day I got closer to Leo; hanging out late at night, texting or calling each other all day. It was like my life was beginning to be completed. Leo was a companion I had always longed for, he gave me the love no one accept my real dad had provided. It wouldn't be wrong to call us best friends, or more...

I was in habit of shaking away these thoughts and blushing to myself.

This particular morning I got a text from Jay. I hadn't been in much contact with him since the lunch that day. "Hey I was wondering if you could take some time out and visit me. Address XXXX."

Lia: Sure, is there someone else coming too?

Jay: No. Don't be late.

I wondered what Jay needed me to do. Arriving at his place, I was welcomed by a servant who led me to a room upstairs. Was this Jay's room? I felt uncomfortable. Just as I was about to knock, I heard Jay yelling. "Stop acting like a child! It's not like I got all this by fraud... Oh yeah? then let's see how long you can survive on your own... Don't talk to me like that! I am hanging up."

His loud voice was terrifying. I felt sorry for the person on the other side of the phone. No doubt his servants were always so well mannered and scared of him. Before I had time to knock, Jay opened the door. I was red-faced as I spoke, "I wasn't eavesdropping, you were yelling so I was scared to interrupt."

"Scared?" Jay giggled. Were their two men inside the room? How could he change his mood so quickly. "It was my cousin, speaking nonsense. He is just envious of my position in the mafia."

"Must be hard leading the most powerful gang at such a young age. You never know who is a snake," I responded strolling further into the room. "So why did you call me here?"

"Oh yes, listen now," Jay got all serious again. Leaning in he proceeded, "This is something important. A mob from South America is coming to North for Lord knows what reason. This is going to be a hard time for us. They are greedy people, their first targets are probably going to be my mob and obviously those closely related to mine. This means we are both in trouble. Keep your guards up. They don't know much about us though. They are landing in Seattle this Wednesday, means after four days. We need to think of a plan to send them away without actually being involved in any of this."

Jay's and my mob had always helped each other in such things. So when one of us got in trouble, due to our close relations both the mobs had to fight together. Our dads had taken oaths to protect and respect each other. There was a rumor that they were blood related too but none of this was confirmed. It was like we were one mob, sharing a few people who worked for us and devising cruel plans together. There was a break in this for sometime. All the mafia gangs kept their heads low for a few years. There was less coordination between Jayc and ROS-W-GOLD mobs too. This was due to the problems in the selection of the new leader after Jay's father died. Although Jay was the only child, one of his uncles was involved in fraudulent acts to take away the throne. He was later killed. After Jay, it was only a time of two years when I also took my fathers place. My father cherished Jay and always praised him for his cunning personality and leadership skills at such a young age. With my father's help, Jay's mob was flourishing again and was now the most powerful one out there. After we both became the leaders, I didn't see us collaborating much but here we are. We strictly kept our close relations private so others don't take advantage of it. Jay was for sure more capable than I was, but he still trusted me so I made sure I didn't disappoint.

I quickly thought of a plan. "I will go to Seattle before them. I will disguise myself as one of the people who will assist them there. My main target is going to be someone who has all their schedule planned out and all important stuff known. This is your duty to find out who it is. I will monitor every move of theirs and when we are ready to surround them, I will let you know."

Jay slowly shook his head, disapproving. "This is too risky. Think of a safer way."

"Think about it yourself. Is their any other way to control this situation without bringing them here in Los Angeles? Plus I know what I am doing, I have done this a few times. I will be okay," I convinced. Jay didn't seem happy but finally gave in.

The harder part of this was not me risking my life but the fact that I won't be telling any of this to Leo and most probably our conversations will remain limited for the amount of days I am in Seattle. What if I never come back? I was sad as I packed my bags to leave. Just then Jay texted me informing me my target. It was a female named Kiara. She was supposedly living in the Capitol Hill area in Seattle. My flight was the next day, in the evening. I called Leo and asked him to meet me near the lake at night.

The next day I overslept. Last night was still in my mind like a freshly plucked daisy. I smiled to myself, picturing us stargazing together, feeling his head on my shoulder; our bodies molding into one another perfectly while his lips passionately on mine. Now I felt gloomier on leaving him uninformed. 'I promise to return as soon as possible.'

"FLIGHT TO SEATTLE LEAVING IN TEN MINUTES. PLEASE REPORT TO THE MAIN GATE" the lady announced. I took in a deep breath, as I was about to leave Jay held my hand and said, "Please don't tell this to Leo. He might have no bad intentions but you don't know how covetous his boss is. You never want such news reaching him. Take care" I simply nodded. If he wanted me to keep these things from Leo, I also didn't like Jay knowing so much about us.

I glided past the busy crowd with a heavy heart, my gut telling me something bad is coming.
