The silence of the house killed her.
The sound of its emptiness echoed through the walls and Annalise felt her heart clench in pain.
It was obvious Greta had been visiting because thankfully, the house was clean. Annalise wasn't sure how she would have taken the house being dirt-filled.
Lord bless Greta.
With a sigh, she went upstairs, pulling her box behind her barely noticing as it bounced along the stairs. Finally, she stepped into her room and sank onto the bed. Her fingers swept through the sheets, she had missed it. She had missed everything that was her life with Nicolás.
Why did everything have to be so complicated? She knew it was far-fetched to wish for a simple life filled with normalcy for her and Nicolás but at least they could have a semblance of it. Life didn't have to be so complex for them both, why couldn't things have been different?
