Silence lingered in the air following Annalise's utterance and after a while, the woman chuckled.
"Humiliate you?" She asked, her gaze turning cold. "You mean as much to me as a speck of dirt on the sole of my shoes."
Annalise swallowed, taking the insult. Everything about the woman screamed cold and heartless but Annalise didn't fault her, she could see behind the frigid exterior the pain expressed in Luciana's eyes and it went well to show that even people who seemed to the public as though they had their life well in place very well didn't.
Her mother-in-law for example was a generally happy soul who took great care of everyone around her and was the first person who treated Annalise like a human being and yet her life with Don Roberto was hell.
She didn't deserve it, no one did and Annalise wished there was a way she could help her also but a small voice resounded in her head telling her she can't help everyone.
