The hairs at the back of her neck stood up just as the dog began barking loudly - they could both sense something cold and sinister in the air.
Annalise stood up from the bed and wrapped her arm around herself. She was the only one at home tonight, Nicolás had called earlier to tell her he wouldn't be able to make it home and so she knew when she heard the front door creak that it wasn't him.
Although he wasn't home, Annalise knew she was being watched over, he had informed her someone was going to be just outside the house and true to his words, from her window earlier, she had seen a truck with tinted windows parked outside the house and it had been there up until the moment she had gone to bed… Now, it wasn't.
Her heart tumbled at the space that the truck had been occupying and so with shaky hands, she reached for her phone and called Nicolás but instead she got his voicemail, over and over again.
