Annalise could almost swear she could hear how fast her heart was beating, blood rushing in her ears. Sweat trickled down her back and as she stepped into the house, fear clogged her throat, momentarily blinding her so that she almost stumbled and fell but the arm on her waist held her tighter, steadying her.
"I'll handle it, I promise." He whispered.

It still felt surreal that he was here right now and she could touch him, Annalise hadn't wanted to be pessimistic but she hadn't been able to conjure up hope that she would be doing this again much less so soon, so soon after she'd tried to blackmail her father and with how that had ended, Nicolás's presence came as the biggest shock to her, she had found it hard to speak for the next minutes after uttering his name.
