Chapter 16 - Betrayed again!

"Today is your last free day," Mallorie said as she dragged Katrina from bed. "You resume your duties today," she giggled.

"I know right," Katrina said, looking across her at Jennie. When their eyes met, Jennie glared at her, and she quickly averted her eyes. After the new head of maids, Daniella, gave her orders to them a few days ago, Katrina had not done any duties thanks to Jennie and the girls who beat her up.

Katrina was able to rest for seven days and used the time to recuperate and call her sister and friends. She had not had the time to speak to her sister ever since she arrived months ago, and during the free days, she made sure she spoke to her sister and friend, promising to visit them soon.

"What are you looking at?" Jennie demanded as he walked towards her. "We've done your duties for you, and now, you resume your duties as a maid," Jennie clicked her tongue.

"Leave her be or I'll report you to the head." Mallorie stood in front of her and folded her arms. "Go away, Jennie," she said, making a hand gesture for her to leave.

"Of course, run along and cry to Daniella, but it won't be for so long," Jennie scoffed and walked away.

"I wondered why she hates me so much." Katrina rubbed her forehead and stood up from the bed. "I thought people like her existed only in books. I never expected people like her to exist in real life, "she rubbed her neck and headed towards the bathroom.

"Forget about her and be thankful to Daniella, who has provided you with new clothes," Mallorie said, and she walks behind her. "You are one lucky girl," Mallorie said.

"I wish," Mallorie answered back, and heaved a sigh. She wasn't a lucky girl at all. If she were to be, she wouldn't be in the Royal Mansion working her ass off to cater for her sister and pay off her family debt. "Hey," Mallorie said, her fingers snapping in Katrina's face.

Katrina blinked as she turned to face Mallorie. "Hmmm," she said.

"Never mind. "You will be assisting in the kitchen today in the preparation of the king's food," Mallorie informed and pushed her towards the bathroom door.

At the mention of Christian's name, Katrina thought about him. She hadn't seen him for a week, and it felt like they'd been away for years. Although she never really thought of him for those few days, she knew she missed his face and his annoying attitude. "We are preparing the king's food?" She asked just to be sure.

"Yes, but they have started already, so we'll be the ones to deliver it to him," Mallorie added, another piece of information that sent Katrina's heart racing.

"We are delivering the food?" Her eyes widened at the thought of seeing Christian's face again. Mallorie nodded in response and pushed her into the bathroom.

"Have your bath first and we will go assist with whatever is left," Mallorie said to her.

Katrina nodded in response and took a step into the bathroom, but she remembered something and stopped walking. "What's the date today?"

"July 5," Mallorie answered, and raised her brows in confusion. "Why are you asking about that? Is it about your pay? " Mallorie asked. "I heard the king didn't pay you last month and he has already paid everyone else,"

Katrina sighed and palmed her forehead. " I wonder why he hasn't paid me yet." The pay was one of the reasons why she asked about the date, but it was something else. The full moon would appear on the 6th of that month, which was the following day, and Katrina knew what that meant.

"Oh no!" Katrina placed a hand on her forehead and rushed into the bathroom.

The full moon means that she would be in her heat since Christian hasn't marked, claimed her or even made advances on her. She was going to be in excruciating pain and just the thought of it alone made her want to puke.

She thought about what would happen if she were to reject Christ and free herself from the pain. She couldn't walk up to him and demand that he have sex with her. She would only sound like a fool. Since the king didn't want her, Kira had only one option and that was to reject Christian. .

After taking her bath, she dressed in the brown dress uniform and, together with Mallorie, they both headed out of the maids' room, heading into the other side of the mansion where the kitchen was. When they arrived there, The meals were already done and dished out by Daniella. "So late of you to join us," Daniella pointed out as Mallorie and Kira made their way towards her. "You think you are on a vacation or something?" Daniella demanded.

The rest of the maids, about five of them, including Jennie, all chuckled amongst themselves. "Silence!" She shut them up. "Not another word from any of you," Daniella warned and turned to face Mallorie and Katrina, urging them to speak up. "What's your excuse?" She demanded

"Apologises Daniella. We have no excuses," Katrina apologized with her head bowed, and Mallorie also did the same.

Daniella looked away from them and looked away. "You'll join in delivering the king's food, and you, Katrina, are demanded by the king to stay by his side until he finishes his meal. Same as you, Jennie," she instructed.

"Yes ma'am," they both answered.

Daniella and Jennie exchanged looks as they placed the King's food in the carrier. Daniella gave a hand gesture, and Jennie replied with a thumbs up. "Take it to the king!" She ordered

"Yes ma'am," they all replied.

They all walked out of the kitchen with the king's food in different food carriers, heading to the king's residence on the other side of the building. When they arrived, the five maids picked to serve the king headed towards the dining room, where Christian, Stefan, and Alisha were seated. The food that belonged to the king was handed over by Katrina. As he served him, their hands brushed and they both shared eye contact.

Katrina's heart quickened as Christian glared at her. "What are you staring at?" He asked, and Katrina almost scoffed.

He was the one who had stared at her even though she had also stared at him. Christian grabbed her hand and pushed her backwards as she was about to serve the second meal. "Don't!" He warned. "Have someone else serve me," he ordered.

Katrina almost fell to the ground as she was pushed backwards by Christian, but luckily for her, Stefan held her hands before she could fall. "Thank you," she said and moved backwards as Jennie rushed to serve Christian's meal.

"The king must hate you so much that he doesn't want to see your face," Alisha scoffed as she picked her fork. "If I were you," Alisha advised, "I'd stay away from him," and then began eating.

Katrina lowered her head and bit her fingers as tears welled up in her eyes. She had thought seeing Christian would make her heart race and it did but he was just like before. acting like she didn't mean anything to him and was only a useless Omega everyone likes to pick on.

When Jennie finished dishing out Christian's food, she moved backwards to where Katrina was and stood beside her while the rest of the maids walked out of the dining hall.

The hall grew silent as they all started eating, and the only thing that could be heard was the clicking of their forks against their plates. The breakfast was going on well until Christian started coughing.

At first they all thought it was a normal cough and gave him water, but it became much worse as he gasped for air. At "Your highness," Stefan stood up and rushed to his side. "Are you okay?" He asked.

"Who prepared this meal?" Christian managed to speak and spat out blood. His throat burned and he choked on his own breath. Someone had poisoned him with a high dose of wolfsbane, powerful enough to kill an average wolf. He couldn't smell it because the attacker has gotten rid of the smell.

"Answer the question! What did you add to the food? " Alisha also stood up from her seat and rushed to Christian. "Answer the question!" she demanded.

As Katrina opened her mouth to speak, she was interrupted by Jennie. "Katrina prepared the food, your highness," she lied.

Christian's eyes widened as he looked towards Katrina. He stared at her with a look of betrayal. A look he gave Veronica when he betrayed him thousands of years ago. Yet again, he had been betrayed again. Her face was the last thing he looked at as he blacked out in Stefan's arms.
