"Ley lines?" Amari asked and Stephen nodded, returning to the piece of paper. He started to trace the matrix formed by the ley lines with his fingers.
"These ley lines detect magical energies around a given area," Stephen said.
"Anyone got a map?" Stephanie asked and the others started to search around the lab.
Nick found a world map lying in one corner of the floor somewhere in the lab, he brought it and placed it on the other side of the big table.
Stephen took the drawing and brought a transparent paper, he started to replicate the lines in the drawing on the transparent paper.
When he was done, he placed the transparent paper in the map, looking for where it matched.
"Can someone bring me LA map?" Stephen demanded when he didn't get a match.
Amari closed her eyes, and then opened it almost immediately. She moved to a cupboard, which had a combination code on it. She drew a sharp breath before unlocking it by putting in the combination code.
"Wow, you are getting the hang of things. I like it," Stephanie complimented and Amari scoffed. She didn't really like the girl. Maybe it had something to do with her trying to kill her in the woods the previous night.
Taking out a rather small container, which looked like some kind of flask, Amari returned to the table where the others where. She opened the container, and then took out its content. Opening it before their eyes, they realized that it was the map they were looking for.
"How did you even know that was there?" Diane asked, asking the question on everyone's mind.
Amari just shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I just kind of knew," she replied.
Stephen had already proceeded to put the transparent paper of the drawing he replicated on the LA map. It matched.
"So, these ley lines Amari drew shows the magical energies in LA ?" Nathan asked.
"Exactly the question now is why did you draw it?" Stephen asked, turning to look at Amari. Others followed his eyes.
"Like I know," Amari shrugged.
"Stephen is right, there is a reason you drew this. Remember we mentioned to you that you are the spirit element. One thing to witches that operate as the spirit element is that they have premonitions, visions," Diane said.
"For you to wake up at midnight to draw this, that's not random," Nick added.
"So you think I drew it based on a premonition or vision I had?" Amari asked.
"Exactly," Diane said.
Amari drew a sharp breath, and then came closer to the table the ley lines drawing and map was. She reached out to touch it, observing it closely.
"The thick lines shows more magical energy concentration, right?" Amari asked.
"That's right," Diane replied.
"Look, Beverly Hills has the thickest ley lines… Am I the only one that finds that strange?" Amari asked, turning to look at the others.
"Well, that's probably because we have you," Nathan stated.
"I don't understand," Amari said.
"Your pendant," Nathan said, pointing to her necklace. Amari's hand moved to touch it.
"You notice how unique it is, right?" Nathan asked.
"You mean the star like shape in the circle shape?" Amari asked.
"Yeah… You see that symbol in the amulet is our symbol; witchcraft… But only few people know this," Nathan paused as Amari looked down at it. Of course she knew it had something to do with magic… But what did that have to do with Beverly hills having the thickest ley lines?
"The circle represents a witch's circle. Like our circle for instance. We witches exists in circles. Never solo" Nathan paused, shaking his head.
"And if you notice, the star like shape has five pointed parts, and that five pointed parts represents how many bloodline makes a true circle, 5 bloodlines, each welding each of the four elements and the last, the spirit element. Our circle is a true circle because we have your bloodline in it," Nathan explained.
"Wait, you mean not every circle has umm, the spirit element?" Amari asked and Nathan shook his head in negation.
"Some circles consists of more than 8 bloodlines, some 4, some 5 even but only our circle has the spirit element in all of LA, I don't know about outside LA though but other circles just have a combination of bloodlines that weld the four elements and that's it," Stephen's smooth voice sounded.
"That's why our circle has the duty to maintain balance and keep the other circles in check. And actually, this duty was handed to us by the gods themselves," Nick said, ending with a click of the tongue. He was now sitting cross legged on one of the stools in the lab.
"The gods, what gods?" Amari asked.
"Witchcraft originated from fallen angels and these fallen angels reigned on earth as gods. There are so many gods, you would be surprised, but that's a topic for another day," Diane chipped in. She too made her way to a stool and sat down, craning her neck.
Amari was beginning to feel overwhelmed. Even her head started to hurt. Was all of this even real? she wondered even though she knew very well that it was all real.
"So, how many circles in total do we have here in Beverly hills?" Amari asked.
"Six," came Nathan's reply.
"Six?" Amari repeated.
"Yup... And in all of LA, we have no idea how many. You do though. Deep down you know. You just haven't accessed that knowledge yet," Stephanie said and Amari eyed her. Her voice was laced with some sort of malice.
"How come you all know so much though? About all this, witchcraft… How come I knew nothing until yesterday?" Amari asked.
Nathan shrugged while Diane sighed. Amari's eyes turned to Stephen who shook his head to show that he didn't know and then her eyes moved to Nick who just shrugged. Turning to Stephanie, she scoffed.
"You don't know either?" she asked.
"We don't know… but we know that it isn't uncommon," Nick said and Amari's eyes left Stephanie and rested on his face.
"We knew about who we were since we were kids and we kind of had our witch parents to guide us, right up until some of them died."
"However, most witches, especially the powerful ones have their powers hibernated naturally until they clock sixteen, and then it starts to seep out. And some others, the hibernation is done by a spell," Nathan added.
"You think my mother did this? You think she put a spell to hibernate my powers and hide all this from me?" Amari asked, her voice a pitch higher. She looked at each of them as she spoke, one at a time.
"Look we don't know, but that's not what you should worry about," Nathan said.
"Then what should I worry about?" Amari asked.
"Something strange is happening… I know most teenagers don't care about the news but a particular news aired this afternoon. I watched it on my phone during the break period," Nathan paused as all eyes turned to him.
"Strange bulgary cases, almost sixty, even the local bank was affected," he said.
"Wait, what do you mean by strange bulgary cases?" Diane asked.
"How about you all check your phones," he said and Stephanie scoffed but they all took out their phones and started to surf the internet for the news of which he spoke about.
"The news doesn't add up," Amari said, looking up from her phone.
"I should go home, my dad probably knows more," Amari said, reaching for her handbag.
