…KAGE POV…
I think that I did not quite hear Slater clearly, "What did you just say?"
Slater raises his voice but a fraction, "I said Liam is downstairs with his pack demanding for you to hand over Avyanna."
"Do you want to tell me that we failed to notice that Liam is a werewolf?"
"The man was pretty convincing, but I suggest you come downstairs before they start ripping the place apart."
Glancing over my shoulder at Avyanna, I can see the clear disappointment and betrayal in her eyes. Sliding from underneath the covers, she starts to dress. Walking up to her, I wrap her hands in mine, "You are not going downstairs."
With a hint of anger in her voice, she makes her intention quite clear, "Liam is my problem."
Feeling slightly annoyed, my eyes pierce into hers. "What you fail to understand is that anything concerning you is my problem."
Slipping back into my jeans, I grab my shirt and head for the door. Just as I pull it open, Avyanna pushes past. I try calling after her, but she utterly ignores me. She is determined to set Liam straight. No matter what I say to her right now, she will still do whatever it is that she wants.
So picking up my pace, I catch up to her and whisper in her ear, "I will support whatever you chose to do but the slightest hint of trouble. I am solving this my way."
Taking the final step, we turn the corner to find Liam with two other men. By the look on his face, his intention is very clear. He has not come here for a friendly chat. He is here for Avyanna and he would take her by any means possible.
Coming to a standstill right up in his face, I square my shoulder and raise my voice with a burning anger, "What is it that I can do for you, Liam?"
"I am here for Avyanna."
"Well, I am afraid to say that you have wasted your time coming here."
He steps one step forward and slams his chest into mine. That last bit of restraint I had completely snaps. Grabbing him by the shoulders, I shove him back until he hits the wall. With a loud thump, his head bangs against the hard surface.
There is a fire that ignites in his eyes as he tries to push me away. When he fails to make me move an inch, he retracts his arm, launching his fist square in my jaw. Completely caught off guard, I stumble back.
As I try to regain my balance, he launches forward and tries to swing another blow at my face. Catching his arm mid-air, I twist his arm until I hear a crack. As he cries out in agony, the two other men step forward. Slater and Niko are there in an instant.
Liam reaches his other arm for my throat, trying to lock his fingers around my neck in the attempt of raising my body off the ground. As he wraps his finger one by one, I snap each one back.
Yet he is determined not to give up.
Raising his leg, he swings it wildly trying to force his foot into my stomach. Anticipating his move, I step back causing him to lose his balance. As his ass lands on the floor, I trample my shoe into his ribs, listening as they crack.
Completely rendered helpless, he looks at me with pleading eyes, "Okay, you have proven your point but let me just warn you that you single-handedly started a war."
"No, I am the one that must warn you that you came into my town, into my house, and thought that you can destroy me. Now I am giving you five minutes to get out or you will be leaving here in a body bag."
Stepping, the two men come to help Liam. With his broken body, he limps towards the front door. Just as he is about to exit, Avyanna calls after him, "Consider this as the end of our relationship."
With one evil smirk on his face, he makes sure his next words are clear, "You are not getting away that easy."
Blind fury consumes every fiber of my body. Stepping closer to Liam, I stare into those evil eyes, "You obviously have a death with. I promise you, if you ever come near Avyanna again, I will chop you into pieces and scatter them all over town."
With that, I shove them out of the front door and slam it shut behind them. Only once I see them drive out of the gate, do I relax every tense muscle in my body.
Turning to Avyanna, I can see the tears brew in the corners of her eyes. Slowly walking up to her, I lock my arm around her waist and lead her back upstairs, but this time I take her to my room. The second I kick the door shut, I wrap my arms around her body and embrace her in a comforting hug.
Even though I want to devour her every curve of her body, now is not the right time to try and take advantage of her. She just only found out that a man that she thought she loved was nothing but a liar. Having to face him just now not only tore at her heart, but the betrayal near damn killed her. I know that there is no way that she will tell me how she is feeling, but I know every emotion that plays across her face.
So, leading her to the edge of the bed, I slip her stilettos off and push her back until she disappears between the sheets. Crawling up behind her back, I pull her into my arms. Holding for dear life, I can feel her body trembling. I know that she is crying, but I rather pull her tighter, hoping my gentle touch will make it even just a fraction better.
It does not take her long, and I feel her body ease into me as she drifts off to sleep. There is no way I am letting her go tonight. Avyanna always used to feel safe in my arms, and I can almost guarantee that she still feels the same way.
Just as I am about to fall into a slumber, I hear a gentle knock at the door. Not wanting to let go of her, I softly whisper, "Come in."
As the door swings open, I am greeted by a very nervous Slater and Niko. Knowing that this is perhaps something that Avyanna does need to hear, I slip her out of my arms and follow Slater and Niko out of the room.
Niko wastes no time in explaining the intrusion, "We seem to have a bigger problem that just wandered into town."
Trying to remain, I push Niko for an answer, "What seems to be the problem?"
Slater is the one that dares break the news, "It seems that the Alpha of that pack we just ran out of town, decided to pay us a visit."
Knowing fully that Liam is behind it, the rage starts to burn under my skin. Looking over my shoulder to where Avyanna is still peacefully sleeping, I grab my jacket and my gun from the nightstand, "Well why don't we go and see what he wants."
