Chapter 35 - Unwelcomed Period

What should I do now? I thought, as I beheld the blood stains on my underwear. It was light red, just a few dots, a sign of the outflow that was about to happen later in the day or tomorrow. This must have been the reason why I had been cranky this morning, must be the reason why I had been so angry at Jeremy. I was on my period. Oh no. I thought, wondering if Nick had some sanitary pads. Did Rose have any? She would die before she gave me some of hers. I mused.

"Olivera…" I heard Nick call, and sighed, biting my lips. How would I tell him this? It was embarrassing.

"Olivera…are you okay?" he asked, and I nodded mechanically, forgetting that there was a door separating us from each other; he couldn't see me or my nodding motion.

"Olivera…" He called again, and I remembering that he couldn't see me, muttered that I was okay. But who was I deceiving? My voice alone betrayed me, and he noticed that.

"What is the problem?" He asked. "You can tell anything you know. I am here for you." he said, and a smile walked its way across my lips. A person hearing his comment, without knowing what was going on or who we were, might think that he was a boyfriend asking to be let into the situation bothering his girlfriend.

"I am on my period." I blurted out, going straight to the point, grateful for the door that was demarcating the both of us. If not, I was sure that I would have died of embarrassment.

"Period? What's that? What period are you in?" I heard him ask, and burst into laughter, forgetting my not-so-good situation for a while.

Please don't tell me that a doctor didn't know what a period was. What kind of doctor was that? I mused, resting my back on the door. I was beginning to feel some cramps already. I just hope it wouldn't be as heavy as the last ones which had kept me indoors for a whole day. I didn't need that kind of problem now. This pack was not right for it.

Please. I mumbled, holding my stomach. Please don't worsen my situation here.

"Olivera…you are not talking. Why did you laugh? What period are you in?" Nick asked, and I sucked. I felt like lying down and sleeping, and so willfully, i slided down the door till I was sitting on the floor, my legs stretched out before me, my head resting comfortably on the door, and my eyes closed-until I heard a hard knock on the door.

"Get up from there."

That was Rose's voice. I screamed in my mind, struggling to stand up from the floor, my head feeling like a carpenter's workshop, another effect of this nonsense period. Why must women go through this alone? It would have been better that men knew and went through this too. That way, Nick would have been able to understand what I had been saying without involving Rose. I was sure that the doctor had called in the help of my taskmistress, seeing that I hadn't opened the door for a while.

Wait. Had I slept off? I thought, shaking my head whilst turning the knob, before that woman shouted off my head.

"What was taking you so long to open the door?" she asked, immediately I had let the door open. Nick was right behind her. His eyes trailed all over me, perhaps looking for signs of whatever he was looking for. Yes. I don't know what he is looking for either. But I was sure it wasn't blood.

"Were you asleep?" she queried incredulously, perhaps noticing my tired eyes, but i said nothing. I didn't have the strength for that. She could talk all she wanted.

"Do i have to slap you before you answer me? Don't think that because Nick is here, I wouldn't be able to do that. I am incharge of you at the moment, at least until the Alpha comes for you." she stated, and i winced. When was the Alpha even coming? I was tired of hearing Rose mentioning the matter over and over again. He should just come and get me. I'm tired. At least,I was sure that he wouldn't let me grace his bed for at least a week. Perhaps this period starting now was a good thing. It will save my virginity and sanity, at least for a while, until I get a handle on some things. Yes, it had come at the right time.

"I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I had slept off. I had just closed my eyes, having felt weak then." I replied, deciding to reply to the rude woman, not wanting to subject my soft cheek to the cruelty of her hands. No, I had to deal with her wisely, even if it meant acting as a sheep, till the king comes.

"I see." she snickered, glaring at me.

"I heard you are on your period eh…" she said, and I nodded, looking everywhere but at Nick. I was sure that Rose must have told him what period was. I didn't want to see his face which might be full of pity and sorrow. After all, he couldn't do much for me now.

"That's good. I don't think the Alpha would be taking you after all. He would wait till you are done, before he would come for your collection. That's good. More chance to prove your working capacity." she taunted, and I almost felt faint. Here I was, thinking that this period would be of help to me, not knowing that it might be a curse. I didn't want to spend any moment further with this woman.

"Here, take this." she said, stretching her hand towards me.

I looked down, and almost scoffed. Slave's wear and a sanitary pad?

Did she carry the brown flimsy wear everywhere she went?

"The pad is from Jasmine's collection." she said, and I shrugged. Of course. Where else would it be from? I thought, shifting my gaze to Nick. i was right. He had that pitiful look on his face.

"Rose, let her be. She will be out of the bathroom when she is done freshening up." he stated, before walking away, turning around at one point to glare at Rose, who in turn glared at me, before turning aside and walking away with the doctor.

Immediately they were gone, I sighed heavily and shut the door.

What next now? I thought, staring at the brown cloth I hated so much.
