"Do you have theses seizures frequently?" Nick asked Olivera, touching her forehead by the back of his palm. She was burning up. He had to give her some herbs to take back to the cell, incase it got worse. He didn't want her developing a strong fever when the Alpha comes to look for her the next day. It wouldn't look good. It wasn't advisable either. His Alpha was unpredictable, unpredictable and wicked. It was better she was up and bouncing in good health.
"Not really. It happens now only when I'm really upset." Olivera replied, face down, knowing the next question that the doctor would ask her. It always started with the 'do you have?' and then boom, she had to confess a mighty secret of hers. She had never thought of lying to cover up, because it wasn't a matter she was able to hide forever.
"Isn't your wolf supposed to stop that?" He asked, and she sighed.
Couldn't she be wrong for once? She thought, taking her lips in, her long hair fanning and shading her face from his gaze the more as her head dipped a bit lower.
"I don't have a wolf. I'm wolfless." She muttered, clasping her hands so tightly that it hurt.
What would he do now? She thought, taking in the silence that reined after her confession, afraid to raise up her head and perhaps, see the disappointed on his face. Well, she believed she would be able to take that though, as far as, he wouldn't go around broadcasting the bad news like her sister had done. She didn't want to be banished. No, she didn't want that. Not without Jeremy.
"You don't have a wolf??" Nick croaked out. His voice laced with shock and disbelief.
"That's... impossible." He stuttered, as his eyes ran over Olivera's petite body again.
He hadn't been able to tell. How could he? She wasn't of their pack.
He suspired as he counted it another reason why she should avoid the Alpha. If the man knows, there was a tendency that he would banish her, citing her wolflessness as a reason for weakness which he hated.
Sadly, there was no way that could happen now. She couldn't avoid him if she wanted. He was coming for her.
And even he, himself, couldn't do anything to stop the man.
His sorrow increased again.
"How? Where are your parents?" He asked, wanting to know everything about her.
Perhaps, with the goddess by his side, he could find a cure for her.
"I don't know. Taken back by my Alpha perhaps." Olivera replied, with a shrug. She was a bit surprised that the doctor was still talking with her, was still interested in knowing her. She could hear the sincerity ringing loud in his voice. His sheer goodness reminded her of Jeremy.
"Tell me everything I should know know about you. I can help, perhaps. Who knows? Your wolf might have been subdued by something." Nick stated, and for a second Olivera held out to a small hope.
What if she wasn't wolfless? What if she had undergone a trauma as a kid, and that had repressed the activity of her wolf? What if the strange seizures had been the cause of her woes? What if her sister had a hand in her wolflessness?
A lot of what ifs, with no corresponding answers.
A lot of what ifs, with no possible answers.
She didn't remember any trauma she had gone through as a kid, except from the bullying which had only begun after her sister had broadcasted that she was wolfless. She didn't believe too that her younger sister was callous enough to repress her wolf. Actually, she didn't think her sister did it. The girl wasn't brainy enough to pass further maths with a mere credit, so how could she conjure up a concotion that would harm her wolf? It was just impossible.
But she decided to humour the doctor though. What could go wrong if he knows her entire story.
And so, she opened her mouth and began to speak.
She spoke about her pack, citing the wickedness of the Alpha, which had drove her parents and fifty other families away from the pack.
She spoke about her seizures which had started then for no just cause.
She spoke about her parents and her little sister, or rather her parents' favouritism for her little sister especially when they had discovered that she was wolfless.
She spoke about her sister's uncanny hatred for her which had never ceased to amaze her.
She spoke and dwelled upon the day in which the latter had chosen to make her life miserable, by telling the whole school that she was wolfless and useless.
She spoke on the bullying that had started after that day.
She spoke on her willful decision to join the nerds clique so as to belong to somewhere, anywhere, at least; a luxury that hadn't lasted long as even the nerds had spurned her away.
She spoke on the suicide decision and when it had taken root in her mind.
She spoke about the day she had chosen to carry out the dreadful act, the day she had met Jeremy.
She spoke about him reverently, the flood of light in her darkness. The only one who had been able to give her another reason to keep on living, and had chosen to live it out with her. Her only friend and best friend at the same time.
And the she spoke about their capture.
When she was done. Her eyes were misty. Remembering and speaking all that had gotten her swamped with self pity. She was surprised that the tears weren't running unbidden down her cheek already. She was unsure about the silence that reined in the sitting room for the second time either. Won't he say anything? She thought, referring to Nick.
After some beats, she slowly pushed back her hair which was shading her face to the back, and raised her eyes, to stare keenly at Nick.
His face was sketched with pity and pure sorrow that almost broke her heart.
Was a Pack doctor always this emotional? She mused within her.
She didn't think so. Her pack doctor from home had been good quite alright, but he was anything but emotional.
