Clarence called Everett as soon as he exited the library.
"Come to the arena."
And as fast as he picked up the call, he cut it off too. Well, at least he knew now where to go, the arena.
But…where was the arena? Clarence asked the people traversing on the streets for direction and soon came in front of a gigantic dome shaped building.
There were no guards here, so he entered the building without having to do anything and looked around to find various floating discs of various sizes.
The discs at the bottom area were mostly small in size but had the largest number too. As he increased his angle of vision, Clarence could notice that the number of discs kept decreasing, but their size on the opposite hand kept increasing.
When he looked around, he could see huge leaderboards on two opposite sides of the arena. He noticed that one of them was the continuation of the other one.
So he focused on one of them and saw that there were five thousand names in total, the same as the other one. When he looked closer, he saw that the majority of the top rankers were all tier five.
Lower down in the ranks some tier four popped up with their names being above tier five. But even after going through the entire name list quickly, he only found a single tier three.
That just goes to show how difficult it was for lower ranked ones to even make a name in the arena.
Clarence diverted his attention from the leaderboards and started looking around in search of Everett.
'There he is.'
He started walking near the guy and saw that the Arlington siblings were here too. He caught up to them and put a hand on Bernard's and Valentina's shoulders.
Looking at their reaction, it seemed as if Everett had already informed them about his arrival.
"So? Why did you call me here?"
"There was an interesting match going on, but you came too late."
Bernard replied to Clarence without taking his eyes away from the battle going on in the arena. He further continued,
"This one looks interesting too. You should definitely watch it."
Clarence stopped disturbing them and focused on the match. A few minutes into the battle, he leaned in to the right side and whispered in Valentina's left ear.
"Why are you here too?"
She smiled and whispered in the same voice without looking away from the battle.
"Learning from battles isn't a bad thing, you know. Not everyone is a genius such as you."
Clarence just smirked at that and continued watching the battle going on.
From the fluctuations he was sensing, he gauged them to be tier three cadets. One of them held a dagger in his hands while the other held a mace.
After observing for a few more minutes, Clarence could already spot a couple of mistakes in the dagger technique. Now that he remembered, it was time to make some tweaks to all of his techniques and spells.
They were too low level for the current him. Back to the present, he knew that it wasn't necessarily because he was more talented in dagger that he could spot the mistakes.
It could also be because he was an observer. One was more likely to spot the mistakes when the person wasn't involved in the battle or whatever that was going on.
Clarence understood that fact, it could also be that the cadet with daggers was weaving some kind of intricate trap for the one with mace to fall into.
The battle was reaching its climax judging from the increased tempo and Clarence already had an idea where it was going.
"Hahaha"
"How could he not see that"
Clarence and Bernard both reacted at the same time while Everett just shook his head. In the battle ahead, as Clarence had guessed, the person with daggers was indeed laying out a trap which all came together at the last moment, successfully defeating the cadet who was wielding a mace.
"That didn't seem very interesting though?"
Clarence asked in a low voice after grouping up with the three of them. He wasn't too keen on letting anyone else hear him and challenge him to a fight.
Valentina turned her head and replied to Clarence who was walking behind the three of them.
"You should've been there for the previous one. We just thought this one was interesting since it's not everyday you get to see battles with traps, excluding you of course. But yea, the previous one was definitely interesting."
"Was it anyone from the leaderboards?"
"Yea, it was that only third tier cadet in the leaderboards who was challenging a tier four cadet. And guess what? She won. That girl is a real deal."
Clarence raised an eyebrow and just left it at that after saying a wow. After a couple of seconds when Clarence saw that instead of exit they were moving towards the reception area, he asked,
"Who wanted to come here anyway?"
This time Everett replied,
"Who else could it be other than Bernard. You slept like a log after fighting him, but this guy here was just as energetic and registered for a fight the very next day.
And apparently he got a message saying that his match has already been fixed and scheduled today in the afternoon. But he couldn't contain his excitement, so he asked all of us to come early.
You were sleeping, so the messenger couldn't reach you I guess. Since we were too early anyway, we watched a few battles here and there and stumbled upon that battle which was just starting.
We were lucky as the crowd for that battle increased a lot later on. You definitely wouldn't be able to watch the battle anyway if you had come a little later than when I called, but you were slow as fuck. You arrived when the battle had already ended and the other was just starting."
Clarence just let out a chuckle hearing that and looked forward to Bernard's battle. One thing was sure, he was still not in the mood to fight, not until he got another reward like the entrance exam for fighting.
