The middle school I attended was in the fishing village in the south of the country. Outside the window, the students could see the blue sea. The sound of foghorn was as frequent as the school bell in the fairy tale village.
But the school became a place I don't want to think about. It was two years ago in July, and we were about to welcome the summer break of ninth grade.
One friend suggested,"Why don't we stay in school at night and share scary stories?" "Wouldn't it be fun?" The suggestion filled me with excitement. The idea of spending the night at an empty school made me shout out, "I am for it!"
Four brave girls agreed to it including me. We picked Friday since we didn't have to go to school the next day. Time passed, and Friday came. I lied to my parents and said that I was going to a pajama party. But, the most important thing was not getting caught by the security. So we came up with a plan.
When all the classes ended and the sun set, we got to work. We hid in the restroom on the first floor that was close to the security's office. We thought that was the best place to hear the security leave.
About an hour later, the footsteps grew distant. With the key of the classroom we had retrieved earlier, we went up to the third floor. The school looked spooky that day. The moment we walked into the classroom. The lights didn't come on as if it was broken. We had no choice but to use the cellphone light and huddle close in the middle of the classroom.
In the classroom, we lit up candles a friend had brought. The atmosphere turned really chilling.
We chatted without noticing the passing of time. The sound of the emergency alert in our cellphone filled the classroom. But there was no sign of an alert on the cellphone screen.
The time was 2:47 a.m. At that moment, we heard the foghorn of a ship that was sailing out. The foghorn sound eased our minds. No one said anything but we were a bit scared.
We decided to go to bed. We ran to the restroom and brushed our teeth in the dark. The restroom light suddenly turned on. It was so strange. All four of us were in the restroom, but the switch was outside. I was scared. I wanted to hurry up and leave the restroom.
I was rinsing my mouth after brushing my teeth hurriedly when I heard a whooshing sound. I didn't know what it was so I picked up my ears. I kept hearing the mysterious sound. For some strange reason, my friends didn't hear anything. I thought," I must have heard it wrong."
Since I was done brushing my teeth, I exited the restroom and walked down the corridor. I heard the mysterious sound again behind my back. A girl with her head hung was flipping the pages of the book in her hands.
The girl began to run towards her like crazy. I ran downstairs without looking back. The front door of the school was locked. I could keep hearing the whooshing sound. I was so scared that I began to cry. I sank down on the floor and covered my ears and closed my eyes.
It went silent for a second then suddenly that woman hit the window with her hands from the outside. She had my face. When I saw she looked just like me I fainted.
When I came to my senses, I was lying down in the classroom. My friends were holding my hands as if they were holding me down.
