Chereads / The Innocent Prophet / Chapter 9 - The Ignotus

Chapter 9 - The Ignotus

"Drip...drip...drip..." the sound of blood falling onto the concrete ground. "Step...step...step..." Nana slowly walked to the entrance of the school, her arms cradling Lin, she clutched and held on tightly.

"CHARGE!!!" The person shouted as he gestured the undead army towards the school, "Kill everyone single last one of them! They took your homes so it's time for you to get theirs!"

She walked out of the school, her bangs covering her eyes. As the eclipse became darker and darker, so did the sky. The morning was now night, the stars shimmering in the sky. Nana got on her knees with Lin and placed him down on the ground. "Rest well." She ran her hands through his hair, "Rest easy."

The hoard of undead quickly approached the school, the sounds of rumbling foot steps and bones rattling filled the empty farm lands as they trample through the crops and fields. A veil of darkness had completely covered Laftis and its inhabitants, cursing them to an unfaithful demise.

Nana held Lin's hands tightly, as she sniffed, trying to hold back the tears. The hoard of undead now surrounding the school, Nana, the only one standing in the court yard of the school, right infront of the entrance. Ready to take on the whole world if it meant to protect Lin. The man who started it all appeared infront of Nana.

"And who is this brave little soul? Trying to defend their deary old school? Aw, how cute." The man said sarcastically, "Move before The Nota curses thy." The man gestured towards Nana. "My names Vear, a Dicere from the land beyond. I have come to spread the word of the great ones." Vear held out a book in his hands. It was quite big, thick and the cover was made of a hide. The corners painted black while the book was painted a sickening red. On the front of the book there wrote "The Nota" with the symbol of a moon engraved on the cover. Nana reached into her jacket pocket, taking out the book. It was an exact copy, only the book was white and now had the words "The Ignotus" engraved on the cover, with a symbol of the sun.

"No, this is not what the prophecy foretold. The Ignotus isn't meant to have existed for another 100 years." Vear said in disbelief. "Fine, I'll just have to correct history myself."

Nana was confused, she had no idea over what was happening. First Lin, now this guy.

"You see, you and I are very special." Vear wore a black robe that extended to the ground, he had long thick black hair and a cut above his eye. "You see how I got this?" He pointed to the scar. "From you. The existence of you curses me. You and I are like brother and sister, except not by blood. By magic. These 2 books are cut from the same cloth. Made by the same god, but with 2 different ideologies. You see, my book, the Nota, was made to house the secret to all magic, all known secrets and possibilities and the creation of the universe. Yours? Yours leads to the unknown. The future you could say."

Nana didn't hear a word he said. Overcome with grief and confusement after Lin. "You caused this."

"What? Of course I did. The prophecy foretells of a great disaster descending upon Laftis, the city fo secrets." Vear announced proudly, "And I, Vear Zold, get to experience it first hand and make it happen. Aren't you glad you get to be in my presence?"

"You caused this. You made all of this happen." Nana's eyes covered by her bangs, she clenches her first. "You did this." Her eyes lighting up in a bright white light, thunder flowing through her body as her book rapidly turned pages, becoming Nana's grimoire. A book that housed one's magical potential, abilities and techniques. "And you'll pay for it."

Nana leaps infront of Vear, her hands winding back, ready to punch. Vear, taken by surprise, shields himself with his arm, blocking the on-coming attack. "Agh!" Vear was taken aback, coughing up blood.

From the far distance, there came a shadowy figure, leaping through the clouds carelessly. The sounds of a large sonic boom pierced the clouds, splitting them apart.

A shadowy figure appeared from the sky, landing on the ground. "Augh" The man coughed, "I should stop doing that, makes for a cool entrance but does it suck." He was tall, possibly 7 foot tall, he had a big build, a large beard that looked like a mane. It was no mistaking it, it was none other than the SSS rank wizard, Leo. "What do we have here? I'm sensing a lot of wretched magic coming off of that Dicere, truly a tragedy. And who are you? Young girl." Leo pointed at Nana, though she didn't respond, she kept quiet.

"L-Leo? Why are you here? Aren't you suppose to be in Laefter?" Vear said in disbelief, "This is not what was suppose to happen."

Nana was confused, she didn't know what was happening. "A Dicere? Wretched magic?" She thought to herself. All she was focused on was getting revenge on Lin, her mind overwhelm with grief, she didn't think properly, lunging in again to Vear. This time Vear predicted Nana's movements, she lunged at him head on, just with enough time for Vear to block.

"Agh!" It still hurt Vear even though he knew where Nana was going to punch this time, even after reinforcing his arms with magic. He'd never felt a human to physically strong, it had to of have been the work of the Ignotus.

Nana appeared behind Vear right after Vear had block the other hit. Nana, in her blinding rage, threw another wreckless punch towards Vear. Vear weaved the punch and threw another punch towards Nana's abdomen, connecting and breaking a rib in her chest as she got sent flying towards the wall.

"Woah, children, enough fighting. I'm getting jealous, why can't I join in?" Leo appeared above Vear in an instant, grabbing his skull and crushing in, flinging him over his shoulder onto the ground, "Filthy Diceres."

Vear's head was crushed, his arms twisted and his back broken. He mustered all of his remaining strength into a condensed beam. "I need a restart." Vear said under his breath, as he pointed the beam towards Nana's chest, piercing her heart. Memories flashed in her eyes, all the good and bad encounters she'd been through the past 18 years flashed through her head. Her vision became blurry, her heart beat slowing down as her eye lids closed.

"AH!" Nana awoke suddenly from her table, startling everyone in the classroom.

"No Nana, "AH" is not the correct answer, meet me after class, I need to talk to you." Magi asked.

"Where am I?" Nana asked herself, sitting in the exact chair and table she was sitting in minutes before The Eclipsing.
