"It's big..." Lyan widens his eyes in surprise as he saw the mercenary guild's building. It's a four-story building with a huge sign of two swords crossed over each other on top of it that gives off a certain pressure to those who saw it.
(It's the headquarter of the mercenary guild all over the world, so it'll obviously look befitting it, right?) (Hestia)
"Well, you're right, though. But..." (Lyan)
*Tsk!*
(Where are the usual cliche of getting looked down on by everyone when the protagonist first entered the guild and getting challenged by one of the arrogant ones!? There are too many people wandering around that they didn't have the time nor space to pay attention to others!) (Lyan)
*Sigh!*
Letting out a small sigh, Lyan entered the mercenary guild. The inside is completely different from what Lyan pictured. Unlike the rough and rowdy-looking guild Lyan pictured inside his head, the mercenary guild is surprisingly neat and organized. The mercenaries didn't make a ruckus and waited in line to converse with the guild's receptionists as well.
(Well, I guess peace is something good as well) (Lyan)
Following the others, Lyan lines up in front of one of the receptionist's desks, and not long after, he arrived right in front of the receptionist's desk.
(Hou... The service is unexpectedly fast) (Lyan)
"Welcome to the mercenary guild of Arkansas, are you new?" What appeared before Lyan is a beautiful and cheerful receptionist girl with a brown hair. With a professional attitude befitting the receptionist of the main mercenary guild.
"Ah, yes," (Lyan)
"Then do you like to register to the guild?" (Receptionist)
"Yes, please," (Lyan)
"Did you perhaps bring some evaluation sample for your rank? An evaluation sample is the most commonly used rank evaluation for new mercenaries. You just need to give a fresh part of the monster that you just defeated and submit it to me and evaluate it. Did you have any?" (Receptionist)
(I see... I could use the giant hunting snake, the direwolves, and the goblins I defeated before then) (Lyan)
(Master! Good thing I came at the right moment. Here! Summon this bag! I've put some parts of the monsters you've defeated inside this small bag I found in my room! Use it!) (Lilith)
(Okay!) (Lyan)
Lyan followed Lilith's suggestion and summoned a small bag out of the thin air. Since he summoned the bag from inside his cloak, no one would be able to see how it appeared out of the thin air.
"Ah... Here it is," Lyan handed the bag to the receptionist.
"I'll evaluate it then," The receptionist gently took the bag from Lyan's hands with a smile and starts to examine and evaluate the inside.
"T-This is..." The receptionist uttered in surprise as she examine the inside of the bag.
"The fangs of the giant hunting serpent and the direwolves are still fresh, and this is a tattooed finger of a goblin shaman... And there are tens of goblin fangs here! Did you defeat all of them alone!?" The receptionist asked with full of energy as she approaches Lyan's face with wide eyes.
"Y-Yeah... I coincidently encountered them in the nearby forest and have no choice but to kill them," (Lyan)
"I see. And you did it without having a party?" (Receptionist)
"Y-Yes..." Lyan answered with a wry smile as the receptionist's face got even closer.
Because of the distance, Lyan could clearly see the beautiful brown pupils of the receptionist that has the same color as her hair.
"Rea, stop it. You're bothering him," Another receptionist girl appeared and pulls the girl back.
"A-Ah! I'm sorry! I got too excited!" The receptionist apologized as she bows to Lyan.
"Forgive her, she loves to get overboard whenever she got too excited," (Black-haired receptionist)
"It's fine, getting approached by a pretty girl is not a trouble," Lyan answered with a gentle smile.
"Heh! You're quite good at flattery, aren't you? But wow... This is truly something. It's been a while since we got this quality of registration sample," The black-haired glasses-wearing receptionist said as she observe the monster parts Lyan brought on top of the receptionist desk. Unlike the first receptionist girl that is brimming with liveliness and youthful energy, the black-haired receptionist is radiating with an aura of calmness and calculation.
"Is that so? Does the registration takes a long time?" (Lyan)
"It won't, please rest assured. We've decided on your rank, but please let us to check on the quests that you might have unknowingly cleared and evaluate the reward of your extermination, please wait for a bit," The black-haired receptionist took the bag filled with the monster parts and bring it inside the staff room.
"So you really didn't have any party?" The brown-haired receptionist continue to question Lyan with her bright eyes after the black-haired receptionist entered the staff room. But unlike before, she didn't press her face near Lyan, and just asked him with her glittering eyes from a distance.
(That child-like eyes of her look like Azelia's) (Lyan)
"Yes. Sadly, I'm new in this city so I didn't have any party," (Lyan)
"I see... People usually either came to this city with their party or came here to join good-quality parties or mercenary troupes, do you perhaps come here to join one?"
(Hm... A party, huh...) (Lyan)
(Master, in this world, a summoner is a very rare occupation and is very desired by powerful countries or organizations. If you're fine with publicity, then it might be fine to have a temporary party to publicize your skills. But if you didn't want to get unnecessary attention, it would be the best to go solo) (Arturia)
Lyan connected the thoughts connection with the grimoire's space.
(I see... I'll go with solo then. I wouldn't be able to freely use and test the summoning creatures if I'm at a party, and it'll make my schedule inflexible since I'll need to follow the party's will. Thanks for the info, Arturia) (Lyan)
(The pleasure is mine, master) (Arturia)
Lyan cut off the thought connection.
"I'm afraid I'm not. I'm here just to start my career as a mercenary, I guess," (Lyan)
"I see! Well, since you have such a promising strength, I believe you'll have a bright future as a mercenary!" The brown-haired receptionist replied cheerfully.
"Um... Forgive me for asking, but aren't you supposed to help the black-haired miss from before at the staff room as well?" (Lyan)
"Ah... It's fine, it's fine. Lichia-chan is not the type that loves to get help from other people when she's working. She works faster end efficiently when there are no others that distract her, so it'll be fine to leave it to her,"
"Ah! I forgot! I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? My name is Rea, Rea Azerman. Are you a noble?" (Rea)
"I'm afraid I'm not," (Lyan)
"Is that so? I'm quite convinced you're a noble, though..." (Rea)
"Did she bother you again?" The black-haired receptionist returned from the staff room, bringing several papers and a bag that seems to be filled with money inside it.
"How rude! Of course, I didn't! By the way, this always-angry-like beautiful woman is Lichia Kukumila! My beautiful friend!" Rea jumps toward Lichia and hugs her, rubbing her face on her.
"R-Rea! We're still working! Stop it!" Lichia pushes her off with a disturbed face, but Lyan felt that she didn't look like she was actually mad or bothered by it.
Lichia cleared her throat with a cough before continuing.
"From the parts you brought, you've killed forty goblins, eight hobgoblins, one goblin shaman, one giant hunting serpent, and seven direwolves. There are several free quests that you unexpectedly cleared, it's the quest asking for the giant hunting serpent's venom and its glands, two quests requesting for direwolves' furs, and the sighting of a goblin shaman that was issued by the city several days ago. And will you sell the rest parts of the monsters together with their magic stones to the guild?" (Lichia)
"Yes," (Lyan)
"Then this is your rewards. It's 24,100 elnes," Lichia puts two big silver coins, four silver coins, and one big copper coin on top of the table.
(Hm... So one big silver is 10,000 elnes, one silver is 1,000 elnes, and one big copper coin is 100 elnes, huh...) (Lyan)
"Thank you very much," Lyan took the coins and put them in a small pouch on his waist.
When Lyan arrived in this world, he was already in an attire that is ready for a journey. A medieval shirt, a pouch on the belt on his waist, and a cloak.
"And congratulations. You're now officially a mercenary, and you'll be starting from the silver rank. This is your mercenary tag," Lichia puts a silver mercenary tag necklace on top of the receptionist's desk.
"What is your mercenary name? The mercenary name you gave will be registered and serve as your professional name. All clients and the guild will refer you as your mercenary name," (Lichia)
(Mercenary name... An alias, huh... I guess I'll took a part of the name given by the god's voice) (Lyan)
"Evocatore," (Lyan)
"Noted. If you met some problem because of some idiots getting jealous from your rank, please inform us. We'll make sure they didn't enter this place anymore," Lichia's words rather than seem to be an advice, it felt more like a threat.
Lyan glanced to his side without turning his head, and notice that most of the mercenaries are looking at them.
"Look at that guy, he's flirting with Miss Lichia,"
"Why didn't she treat him coldly as always?"
"She seems to be in a good mood, maybe she'll accept my invitation to drink together today,"
(I see... Looks like I got myself into another troublesome person) (Lyan)
